I've moved from my X-Fi which I thought was good, but now it has been trumped. I've been fiddling for about half an hour getting the EQ to how I like it and I'm amazed. Songs are much more vibrant and clear compared to the X-Fi. Really pleased as I think it's final showing my Hi-Fi setups true potential. :D

I wasn't happy with the default settings, but since tweaking, it sounds great! Anyone thinking of buying one definately should.

One happy customer here! (Vista x64 with beta drivers).

Install was quick and painless and the software is precise, not too many options and it doesn't install 50 services and startup items. lol.

Which X-fi did you have?

I'm really tempted by the Xonar but I'm trying to justify the cost to replace my X-fi Fatal1ty and your post gave me hope :D Is it really that much better?

Still have horribly low sound output here. It all works fine but it's so quiet!

Ahh sorry to hear that, I wonder why that is. I'm guessing all volume levels are right up in the software and windows?

I have the X-Fi Music (one of the first ones without a heatsink on the chip). I honestly thought it wouldn't be that much better. So I've been music-less for about 3 days now. And I honestly don't remember the music sounding this clean before...

So at the moment I'm going through listening to different music types to fine tune the EQ but acoustic stuff is crisp and vocals are nice and clear. Definately not worse than the X-Fi and imo it's better! :D

Yeah the audio on these cards is awesome.

Every game I have played has me looking around as the audio is so realistic.

Bluray + HDDVD as well sound a lot better.

the Xonar sounds very good in games and doesnt suffer from the audio bugs that plagued the X-Fi

my only criticism of the Xonar is the lower volume of the microphone input compared to the X-Fi that I had, its probably a clearer sounding input but the volume level is roughly half

I can only recommend this card. Got it a few days ago and it is a very good all around card. Quality in music is higher than my old M-Audio Revolution which is better or at least equal in terms of music playback with the "normal" X-Fi cards. The only game i have played is Assasin's creed which sounded very good but the audio is the least of my worries there when you are getting pushed about from metally ill people are beggars.
Also watched some DVD's that i knew features some amazing sound Lotr:Fellowship of the ring and Revenge of the Sith and i was impressed.
Have to state though that even that i have heard an X-Fi in action it was with my mate's Inspire speakers that could have hampered the card :p

is that even with the Mic boost? i never used the mic on my x-fi so i dont really have anything to compare it with.

I know others have had this problem but I'm not willing to reinstall things on my computer for the sake of sound at the moment. Maybe when I have more time.

Hoping on drivers to turn up eventually if I'm being honest....

why do soundcards even have problems with microphones. I'm sure they think everybody is going to use a professional low-gain mic instead of the soft of micrphone you'd normally use on the pc. its crazy and they need to fix it really.

Was gonna say surely u dont need to tweek and mess to much with the EQ and settings ? :)

I usualy have it off and perhaps just adjust the bass/treble settings to 60-70% to enjoy a little kick and drama in my sounds.
