With the Xonar, is there a "What U Hear" style function?
Yes. At least I do in Vista. It's simply called "Wave".

Gone for one of these, as im fed up with the crackling with my x fi in vista, hope this sorts it.
Yes the software is simple. One application, and about 3 startup entries.
