I'm seriously lost now.

All this talk about the Dell being rubbish / improved Hazro coming soon has got me utterly lost.

I need to get a new monitor soon, the old one is on the blink. Is the Dell that rubbish or is the A01 revision a marked improvement?

My credit card is twitching and I'm very tempted to stick my order in today for the Dell, however I don't want to be kicking myself in a few weeks' time...

I don't play games, I just want a decent quality large-ish widescreen monitor for around the £400 mark...

HELP! :(

I am in the same boat.
For me it's a case of waiting for both the Dell/Hazro revision, hopefully in the next month or so, before getting my CC out.

Talon - a trawl through this forum, in particular the 13 page thread entitled 'THE OFFICIAL DELL ULTRASHARP 2408WFP THREAD' highlights a number of issues OcUK forum users have had with poor response times and difficulties with colour calibration, amongst other things.

There's a whole load of opinion about the standard of Dell's monitors going downhill, and the fact that the first batches of newer monitors have been flawed, requiring revisions to address the issues.

I imagine the monitor you've received is an A01 revision - this has only recently been released and I'm trying to find out if it is a marked improvement on the A00 - hence this thread.

I'm sure someone with far more knowledge will be able to clearly summarise where Dell went wrong with the A00 2408s...

Well, my 2408 arrived 2 hours ago and initial impressions are favorable. The OcUK product page claims it should be rev A01 but I've not yet verified this.

I work in a darkened room, even so my old 22" crt was proving a little dim. As one would expect from a lcd, I'm finding the 2408 a little bright.

Using the monitors default desktop profile colours in applications are not bad at all, red is a little bright perhaps but I've yet to fiddle. Contrast and black definition again fine out the box.

Photographs I've viewed display well. Again a hint of over bright red which is probably the reason compression artifacts are standing out slightly more than they should.

Lag. Not something I've noticed yet. Certainly no feeling of sluggishness

Text. Fine once ClearType is enabled, I see no halos

Ghosting. None that I've noticed.

Naughty pixels. Again none that I've noticed.

So far I'm a happy camper.

This morning, I sent a webnote to OCuk asking them to confirm whether the Dell is the A01 revision and this was the reply I received:

"It is 100% the A01 version and it does have the updated firmware and it does not suffer from input lag."

... and it does not suffer from input lag.

Ooo, the little fibbers !

At great risk of personal injury I've just reinstated my crt. Is there any lag? Oh yes.

At first glance it appears to average, sample size 4, about two/three frames. You all know where the reviews are but a quick check shows about fifty percent improvement ( http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_2408wfp.htm ).

I'll tidy the pictures and post back.

So, this certainly doesn't look like the old revision. In the past 6 to 8 weeks I've had to replace 2 hard drives (one of my raid 0 pair failed), my cpu (topless amd 64, chipped the core due to water cooling plumbing when fitting my 4850) and I broke my OcUK value 24", twice, while trying to fit a dimmer mod ( 1st law of modding, if you break it you do not send it back :( ). At last something has gone right :):)

Now if only I could figure out why VTM: Bloodlines defaults to low res textures when the 4850 is connected to a lcd :(

I had read that Dell was for various reason still going to send the monitors out as A00 but with the revision, but I want concrete proof that it's the revision before getting my CC out.

Got two 2408 A00s at work and they lag like you wouldn't believe.

Going to get on to Dell support on Monday morning and ask about getting them swapped out for A01s.

got no problem with mine either ... so far ... very impressed ..does say 00 version tho ... if u can find out ecat wouldbe great .. but seeing as i dont have an issue i dont think i'll mess around ...

did turn the brightness down 10 points to 40 tho .... abit to bright for me

The way to tell if you have the latest firmware is that the sharpness is no longer in steps of 25% at a time.

I read that too, one of the first things I looked at. For the record I still have 25% steps.

http://www.entechtaiwan.com/lib/softmccs.shtm may be able to give finer control if necessary.

The only other information I have is the part number, mine is part number CX268 . I had a quick look for other part number information on the net but found nothing conclusive.

One thing to add to my previous list of observations: Banding. None that I've noticed.
