Asus P5Q-E (P45) Motherboard Review

Ok I think I sorted it and yes looks to be a combination of things. Just took everything apart took lots of pictures and put everthing back together . .

I noticed that if I applied a little pressure to the top of the I/O blocks inside the case the backplate seemed to line up, there was nothing stopping the board was sinking 1mm-2mm so with pressure applied all was good. Taking the board out again it seems it was slightly *bowed* upwards so looking at it from the side where the I/O ports are there was a slight rainbow arch effect.

Gave the board a *very* gentle flex in the opposite direction (creak creak) appears to have straightened it out! Also there are a few other tiny factors involved one of which is deffo the I/O block that contains the eSata and Firewire red ports is too high in comparison to the other I/O ports i.e when I put pressure on the whole I/O block all the other ports are perfectly lines up and straight however the red eSata/Firewire block is still a bit too high! To get the eSata/Firewire block in line requires pushing the I/O block so far down that all the other ports sink to low! :D

So worst case scenario is maybe I lose access to the single rear Firewire port but as I straigtened the board out and there is still some play in it I imagine I will be able to replace the case side panel carefully and maybe have it pusing slightly against the top of the TRUE heatsink and just have the board lower itself by 1mm-2mm . . .sorted off to build! :)

Long term fix from ASUS=

  • Don't ship boards that are slightly bowed
  • Either fit the eSata/Firewire block properly so it sits lower on the board or cut the I/O shield with a bit more space to allow for this bad fit.

Got quite lucky with mine. Everything matched up level with the i/o plate in my eclipse 62. Unlike my previous evga 680i i had to file the i/o plate to get it to fit the case and even then the ports were off centre a bit.

I pretty much sorted my backplate now, just needed the board to be flexed and a little extra attention when fitting it. I will post some pictures later but I'm in-between machines atm so don't have photshop installed etc.

Despite my best effort I have lost access to one single rear firewire port, not sure if this because that particular I/O block is sitting higher than the others or maybe the I/O shield is cut a bit badly? Not an issue for me as I have an easy access firewire port on the front of the P182 chassis and I don't even use any firewire devices ha! :D

Got my system up and running anyway, despite the initial hitch with the I/O plate everything else went very smoothly and booted right up first time. I will be just running the P5Q-Dlx at stock for a day or two to get a feel for it, it's a lovely looking board and I am excited at the prospect of some clocking.

I deffo feel like either Cob or gurusan should start an offical P5Q-DLX owners thread though, if either of you too don't do it within the next week or so I will! :p

Really couldn't be bothered.

So we commandeered this thread instead

TRUE + P5Q-Deluxe Fits!

truep5qdlx01om4.jpg

I would have said before if asked that the TRUE easily fits the P5Q-Deluxe based on my trouble free installation. I had only been worried that the splayed fins on the TRUE wouldn't be high enough to clear the boards radiators, after a test fit I was pleased to see there was acres of space and thought no more of it.

Anyway today I had the machine apart to reverse the case header cables (I always seem to get them the wrong way round lol?) and while it was apart I had a closer look, it seems luck was on my side because although the TRUE's main fins clear the boards radiators with ease the same cannot be said about some of the heatpipes . . .

The heatpipes near the top of the board clear the radiators with mm's to spare but the heatpipes lower down near the chipset are virtually touching the boards radiators!

Phew close call but not a problem . . . I would imagine there is enough play in the heatsink to shift the TRUE a fraction towards the top of the board so the heatpipes were 100% clear, hopefully I didn't bend any fins of my lovely new board! :D

just thought I'd share!

Looking good. nice to hear that the TRUE fits ok as im gonna install 1 soon. Currently using an acf7 and to get it to fit, i had to bend a few of the fins downwards and file of the bottom corners of the fan to clear the heatsinks on the board. bit of a bodge job but it was that or the stock intel cooler:D

The tuniq tower fits okay, recieved mine today.

I have to mention, from first impressions, the p5q deluxe looks an amazing board, while my old board was a pretty good board, ive not even tweaked yet, and im at 3.2ghz with my q6600 at 1.3v, my old board i needed 1.4325v to get 3.2ghz.

Ill bed it in at that for a few days before starting to see what i can get, its probably about 5-6 C hotter in Scotland than it usually is, not ideal overclocking weather.

What you guys been using to monitor temps? I did have speedfan working but as soon as I changed some BIOS settings speedfan lost all the sensors?

Anyway deuse just pointed this app out to me

HWMonitor

Quite basic but seems to be reading all the temps from an ASUS P5Q-Deluxe! :)

Yeah I didn't find much that works myself yet but that app above (from makers of CPU-z) seems to work good?

SYSTIN 33°C most likely the mobo temp
CPUTIN 28°C is probably the CPU socket
AUXTIN 31°C
not sure what this would be?

Hey was looking at getting this mobo
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

over the deluxe since deluxe has a heat pipe goin to the south bridge (will be w
ater cooling in new system im building) so thought will be easier then getting a new block to cool it (unless u can remove the pipe or something =p ) so yeah is there any major differance over these two

kind regards
doji

The difference is minimal I think IS7Doji :)

16 phase power instead of 8 and ExpressGate SSD instead of the hard drive installed version. I have the P5Q-E and it is a very nice board :) Literally identical to the Deluxe.

Are you planning to w/c the NB? because in all honesty I dont think its worth it. Just have good airflow in the case and it will be fine. I water cool the CPU/GFX in mine, the pipe doesnt get in the way.

Hi.

Anyone know what the Matrox message means when first booting with this mobo?
Can I turn off the Matrox setting in the BIOS without it causing any problems?

Ta.
