AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

If you are worried about people not knowing what you are referring to then you can always preface your post with the person's name.
which means more typeing.

i don't use a keyboard to type, i use my head to control the pc and use a on screen keyboard to type. i do whats best for me and the way that cuts down on my typeing..

u get what i mean now?

Goldfingers +1. I would love to see what these chips can do on 1.6. I have seen some crazy reviews of them hitting 6GHz at 1.9v. My priority is probably to keep the vcore as low as possible now just to reduce the temps. I am getting worried with spring on the way! :D

The days of opening the windows to keep a clock stable are numbered.

Thanks for that, very helpful.

Gurusan, that's well worth £70, I can't get my 955 much higher than that so you should be statisfied.

Yeah it's great bang/buck...but I'm not satisfied lol.

Gurusan I hit the same 1.5v wall on my 555 unlocked 3.85ghz. If you have watercooling how about trying 1.6v and seeing what you can get?

Have you messed with the multi's much?

Cooling is on a Thermolab Baram + Noctua NF-P12...I was stressing it at 3.8GHz as a tricore and temps were 36C under load :/ So Hopefully I won't have to worry about temps (obviously can't monitor when unlocked)...though I don't want to put more than 1.5ish through it as a 24/7 clock.

I just tried 4GHz with 4th core unlocked and it shut down the PC and would not boot at all, no fans or anything. Tried everything til eventually I took out the CPU and put it back again (pain in arse with the Baram), and it works.

I don't think I like this MA790XT much. It's very easy to OC but lacks fine tuning options that I think are required to get the higher clocks.

I would be surprised if you are able to get above 3.8 with 1.5vcore or less. Lets us know if you do though. Would be awesome!

overall temp. The coretemp said 32C....less than the IHS which makes absolutely no sense.

I think I am going to settle on 3.85GHz for now. I might put it back to tricore and see if I can get a 4GHz clock a bit later.

Memory performance is certainly a lot better than 775 :)

My memory (OCZ3P18004GK) is rated @ 1.9V but can go to 1.95V (2.6% increase) and remain in warranty, though I'm not quite sure how OCZ would know if you've gone past this.

How much your memory can take depends on the ICs it uses. Can probably find that out by googling your kit part number.

the part number is PGS34G1600LLKA

a while back i posted a thread on Patriot forum and Patriot_Ben (which i guess is a admin) said:

1.75 should be fine. You should be able to go up to 1.95v

but tbh that doesn't sound right also wouldn't that invold the warranty?

ohhh i'm getting ****** off with this. i just ran prime95 on blend for about 4hours and it crashed bu before it was perfectly stable running prime95 for 8 hours.

world using my cam on skype while running prime95 make it crash? if not then maybe the cpu is slowly dieing?

i've just upped the vcore to 1.45v just now but tbh it was perfectly stable on 1.425v before which drops down to 1.408v when idle.

Temperatures are KEY in Phenom II's.
We've seen my IBT's.
1C can make the difference between stability and BSOD.

EDIT : Put a star to your reply if you read this.

When I was doing my 4GHZ IBT testing, I found 1.474V to be perfectly stable, it was a cold day, the next day was slightly hotter, IBT testing, instability. Rose the Vcore to 1.5V, IBT, stable.

Purposely made my room cold the next day, 1.475V, IBT stable.

Conclusion? Temperature affects the needed volts, the colder, the less volts needed, logical? Not really.

Read the edit.
I was talking IBT maximum.
I know you're new to overclocking Phenom's, I've owned 3 myself, and worked with 2 others. Conclusion? I know more than you on this subject.
