AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

gareth170, hows it going? :) . . nice result, don't forget your name in the screenies and watch the excessive quoting! ;)
im doing fine thanks, i haven't been around much because of been in n out hospital..

i will update the pictures with my name soon (i forget to do), as for the quoting, i only quoted the part im answering.

Sorry to hear about the hospital visits, hopefully the sun shine will help lift the spirits a little! :)

Re: the quoting stuff, I don't want to labour the point too much but it makes the thread nicer & easier to read if people don't include a quote if they are replying to a post directly above their reply (or at least edit it down to minimum!) . . . I know this happens a lot in 99.9% of other threads but I am trying a new approach for this particular "resource" (it's about the people that read this thread after us more than us!) . . .

I illustrated this concept for you (or anyone else) in the image below, thanks in advance for your cooperation !

if people don't include a quote if they are replying to a post directly above their reply (or at least edit it down to minimum!) . . .
the problem in doing that is, while a person is typing/replying to above post there could be 2-3 other posts before you've submit it.. thats why theres a quote button

also as u can see in my that post i only quoted to me.

  • Wayne: Hello Gareth How are you?
  • Gareth: Hello Gareth How are you? I'm fine thanks Wayne just doing some clocking!
  • Wayne: Err, oh cool, did you managed to crack that 4GHz clock yet?
  • Gareth: Err, oh cool, did you managed to crack that 4GHz clock yet? no no I didn't feel the need as 3.8GHz seems to mince through my tasks nicely
  • Wayne: Hey man how come your repeating everything I say before you say something? it's kinda weird? :D
  • Gareth: Hey man how come your repeating everything I say before you say something? it's kinda weird? :D Hey that's how I talk? whats your problem?
The poor blind/visually impaired sight folks who are listening to this thread must be having a hard time understanding the conversation, they can switch off the sigs but I don't think their audio software deals with superflous quotes as well! . . . It's just a polite request and nothing more!

only 1 person has an issue with it :)
Are you talking about yourself or me? :D

I'm only thinking of others! :)

I see your point, strange how the 550 BE is slightly cheaper, I think,
- Maybe there's a rack of stock to be rid of?
- Could be strategically marked down cheaper so the customer would be tempted to buy a 550 BE over a 555 BE elsewhere maybe.
- If both the 550 and 555 BE's were in stock, I wouldn't see the 550s selling as much as the 555s as the price difference is only around £10.

Oc have maybe dropped one from the customes p.o.v but as a business p.o.v it seems viable.

I'm just happy I got my 955 for £125 a month ago, along with the 5850 price increase too and my motherboard being out of stock, my parts would have been £45 more if I'd of bought today!

Fella, If I invite you into my home and ask you politely to take off you shoes it would probably be universally acceptable behaviour to follow the hosts requests!

This is not just any old thread, this is a thread I have created to be a precise, interesting and above all else a *fun* resource and hang-out, every single person that has joined so far has understood my requests and tried to accommodate them, I'm not asking much . . . just want AMD® Phenom™ II hardware related chatter, friendly cooperative vibes and a feeling of goodwill amongst all the contributors, *named* technical screenies and lots of Prime95 Blending! :)

The strength of this thread (and threads like this) come weeks/months/years later, it can have a nice flow all the way through and will be nice to read, the excessive quoting really bugs me and generally just *bloats* the reading! :(

To everyone else, sorry about this, I don't want to detract from the main thread with this bickering with gareth170 (we have a history) but this quoting thing takes away from my enjoyment of the thread and diminishes it as a resource that can be printed and listened too . . . . and if gareth170 won't back down neither will I, this off topic nonsense could go on for pages . . . If anyone can intervene and resolve this I would be grateful! :p

So I got my rig up and running. My impressions of the MA790XT-UD4P are so-so...it's very easy to overclock but there are a few things that bug me:

-Voltage control is very coarse...I really like fine tuning stuff
-Sometimes unstable clocks will result in no keyboard function in the BIOS, most annoying as I have to reset CMOS.

Anyway, this is my current clock....got the x3 705e unlocked to quad at 3.8GHz. Can anyone give me any pointers for trying to attain 4GHz? How high should I go on CPU-NB and the NB voltages?

**edit** Darn, I think I have hit a wall at 308 Bus :/ Perhaps I should have just gone for a 955 BE c3 rev

your nearing the tricky bit now :D once you get to 3,8 then the next step to 4.0 is the hard part getting stable. normally needs quite a jump in volts which for me is a bit too much for my liking especially for 24/7.rather leave mine at 3.7 at 1.4v with nb at 2.6.

mine boots and is fine in windows at 4.1 but any benchies crashes it thats at 1.5v and maybe with a bit more it would be stable but not that old yet and i dont want to hammer it to hard just yet.

i must say the nb overclock is the bees knees and makes a big difference.

mate you can't stop people from using quoting to above post, i gave a reason above.. "while a person is typing/replying to above post there could be 2-3 other posts before you've submit it". i agree therees no need to quote a full post but most people here doesn't (including me), theres no rules on about how to use quotes.

also before i started posted in this thread, some other people have used quotes to the above post but you haven't said anything to them, it seems like you try to find reasons to get at me. if this forum was yours then yes you could tell people to stop using the quoting for above post or you could even remove the quote button but its not your own forum.

please just back off ok..

Wow, this guy must have some life to get his kicks by being immature on forums, reminds of this guy who lives down the canal tow path.

He's not trying to stop people from quoting, it has been asked POLITELY on page one, along with putting a name on screenshots etc for easy reading.

It's not to say "I'm the boss of this thread", its been said to keep the thread in order and looking good but then things like you happen, which is a shame because no one else has had bought his bottom lip to the table.

Grow up.

Gurusan, that's well worth £70, I can't get my 955 much higher than that so you should be statisfied.

gareth: Why not just play nice? It is Wayne's thread and he is just doing his best to make a nice and readable thread for everyone. Surely you can just put aside your desire to quote for this one thread? If you are worried about people not knowing what you are referring to then you can always preface your post with the person's name.

+1 to the comments about getting above 3.8. It does just seem to require very large vcore increases (above 1.5 for most chips).

you really don't get what i mean..

before i started posted in this thread, some other people have used quotes to the above post but he didn't ssay anything to them, but as soon as i post here, bang he say about this..

Gurusan I hit the same 1.5v wall on my 555 unlocked 3.85ghz. If you have watercooling how about trying 1.6v and seeing what you can get?

Have you messed with the multi's much?
