AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

Ah right, as I say im very much a newbie, however I do live in Northwest England so air temp is very low 99% of the time if that helps keep systems cool. Its about 2 outside at the moment hehe

So if we say stock cooling is ok for now, how should I move on and overclock further without pushing anything too far. Im not looking for record making levels just more power for my money.

Thank You

Yeah Id prefer to keep well under that personally, what should my next step be to find more power?

Do I just keep increasing the multiplier until the system becomes unstable and then go backwards from there? Watching temps?

I want to try and achieve around 3.8ghz stable without doing too much harm to the life of my cpu if that is possible?

Thank You again

Neither of these boxes is like mine? My box is more like the one on the left.. It's blue 'ish' not black but its a solid color (ie not white stripe like on the no black version here). My box does not say black edition on though. Have I been sent the incorrect one?

I assumed it was just a new box they were using..

gareth - I thought the max temp was 62. Had never seen that 70 before. Guess that must have been for other phenom chips.

lol no I told my girlfriend I was only popping on the computer for 5 minutes hehe.

Im guessing there will be a lot of advice in the 19 pages before that I should do?

Im just a little scared of getting it wrong and was looking for advice given my hardware, havnt got my head around all of this yet.

Sorry, Thank You

Ok thanks guys, well my temps never go above 55 under full load using prime95 for about an hour so will leave it on tonight when I go to bed and hopefully it should be fully stable.

If so I will look at increasing the multiplier and running more prime tests, and posting back here once I find my max multiplier Thank You all, much appreciated

Great, gah! can't believe I got sent the wrong one..! I have been running it for a week I only went into bios today for the first time otherwise I would have not found out

this is a small thread still (less than 600 posts), I've sat down to read threads that are 5000 posts long and thats hard work! :D

Anyway bearing that in mind I am trying to make this thread better than any others in the past in terms of usability/readability and there are plenty of technical screenshots for you to use a reference as well as lots of nice posts, as an incentive there are a few *freebies* from AMD® hidden throughout so there even more reason to put some time aside and get reading! :p . . . to help you on your way there is a basic starter guide for you in post #44

@everyone else:
I'm sure some of you guys know this but perhaps some of you don't, if you visit your OcUK User-CP (control panel) you can change the thread display options to show 80+ posts each page! . . . it makes a big difference so if you haven't gone 80+ then now is the time!

Yes, it looks good...I was just trying to determine how 1333MHz CL6 compared to my memory clock.

I wonder if I can get 1333MHz Cl5 :/

This is my bench with 1643MHz CL7 and NB at 2772MHz. The 1600Mhz looks to improve the latency considerably as well as the bandwidth obviously.
