AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

2 hours isn't long enough mate.. u should run it for at least 8hours+

my ram isn't on the QVL for my motherboard too , but afew people have said they run fine

im still running prime95 on blend since this morning and it's not stoped yet :D, this is at 1600mhz 7-7-7-20 2t 1.75v. if it gets past 8hours then i'll be shocked because i've not done anything different from the other times

Hang in there Gareth, your showing tremendous "resolve" . . . if you don't get a fix soon I don't see any other way forward except for swapping out the ram? :( . . . do you know anyone who could loan you a set of DDR3 for testing purposes, that would help avoid paying out money for something you don't actually need (if the problem lay elsewhere?) . . .

Pneumonic: thanks for the 1t/2t info! :)

zoomee: You still had no joy?

@ Everyone else who isn't trouble-shooting, I would be ever so grateful if a few of you could download and run OCCT 3.1.0 for me (as shown in post #622), I want to view your vCore graphs and see how smooth/wobbly your CPU voltages are! :)

if u can wait a hour i will run it for u mate

no i don't know anyone near me that as ddr3 ram, i may just rma them again or even get a new motherboard as thats what im thinking is the problem to the electric issue.

I'd appreciate a few results by the end of the weekend but I think you have enough on your plate! . . . It sounds like you have some really weird thing going on?, stable, not stable, stable etc  . . . Did you unplug the audio cable from the back of the PC?

yeah i tryed unplug the audio cables from the sound card but it still restarted when switched a plug socket on/off or a light switch, it only happens sometimes, but it makes me mad when i'm half way doing something then it restarts just because someone turned something on/off...

tbh it's ever since i got this motherboard...

if prime95 passes 8hours then i'll leave it as that for now.. i've spend along time on this ram issue.. it's making me go crazy, lol

Nice one gareth! :) . . . I think in your boots (for troubleshooting purposes) I wouldn't change one setting for a day or so and chill out with some gaming etc, I'll get your medal in the post! :D

hehe. yeah i'll leave it as that for awhile. i would like to up the HT link but for now its fine...

anyway heres the OCCT vcore .

hope 8 minutes is ok...

I'm not entirely sure as to the accuracy of the OCCT graph. I don't know the polling rate of vcore reporting in these mobos or the OCCT software but I'm fairly sure that to get any meaningful graph of vcore vs time you need an oscilloscope.

isn't there a setting in your bios that controls that?

There is, it's called Loadline calibration.
I was wondering also before why my vcore has been jumping dramatically ie:
when I put 1.45v it will go all the way from 1.4 to 1.5 depending on load which was driving me nuts as I'd put 1.5 for example for high OC stability and it will drop at some point to 1.42 and crash.

Then I found it's the loadline calibration that controls it and now it's all goodie : ).

Gareth: Good to see its stable! If you do want to test some different RAM e-mail in Trust.. I have two sets of OCZ 1600mhz DDR3 sitting spare at the mo which you can have a play with for a bit if needs be

Glad to hear you got it stable Gareth.

I got my GD70 set up yesterday....I have to say I like it a LOT more than the MA790XT-UD4P. There are plenty of BIOS options and RAM settings, and the debug LED is very helpful...it even displays the CPU temp. There are nice voltage reading points along the board as well which I have used and it looks like the vcore reading in CPU-Z is off by .016V (CPU-Z reads 1.448V when it's 1.464V actual)...That's a smaller discrepancy than I was expecting.

Prime95 has been going for 1 hour so far so good.

Pneumonic, thanks for that mate. i will see how it runs for afew days then if it still playing up, i will send u an email, if thats ok will you?

gurusan, yeah tbh i don't know why it's stable now, have done nothing different..

as for vcore readings , mine is off by 0.001v, it should be 1.45v by it shows 1.44v in monitoring apps

the debug LED is a nice feature, my motherboard as one too.
