AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

Gareth: I have another way-out hunch about the light switch/plug causing your PC to sometimes reboot . . . aside from a possible electrical fault in your home I am thinking maybe it is your speakers? . . . yeah I know that sounds whacky but if they are powered speakers plugged into the mains then that's a direct link . . . for testing purposes can you get the speakers unplugged from the system and try the light switches/plugs again! :) . . . I also have been informed it may be something to do with the main circuit overloading from lots of devices attached (?) so to test that theory you would need to arrange to have as many things unplugged as possible and test again . . .

zoomee: Hang in there buddy, I'm sure we will get your problem sorted soon! . . . P.S can you delete your quote from post #703 please

Pneumonic: Good to see you mate, I was wondering where you been? and how it's going with the Pod-Racer project? :D

oops - sorry mate I should know better /hangs head in shame.

Not sure dropping the DRAM to 1333 is going to work as thats what it was running at on stock settings in my first three runs of prime95 albiet only at 1.5v (which I think it should have been able to handle as its rated to run [email protected]).

Only difference now is DRAM voltage is at the rated 1.65v/1333Mhz. Prime is off running, will see how it goes tonight. thanks all for input so far -teaches me for trying to be clever with 1600mhz sticks when I coulda just got 1333 stuff for cheaper!

PS Ram is: CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 - 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, XMP, 1.65V

Wayne: Its going ok, got a lot of little bits done.. I done some work on it yesterday and have the first 3 radiators in now as well.. just another 3 to go.. need to take some pictures and update

Big.Wayne, im using a 5.1 AV AMP with speakers + 2 car subs and 1 active sub. i was thinking it's that, but it only started happening since i had this motherboard.

Gareth: Drop the RAM speed to 1333mhz would be my first step

I would then achieve the max CPU / NB clock. Your max NB clock will determine what sort of RAM speed you need to aim at... you can then balance out the NB / RAM clock to get best results

Pneumonic. have u read my previous posts?

1333mhz 6-6-6-20 1t 1.75v is stable,

my cpu-nb is stable at 2.6ghz which is more than enough for 1600mhz..

my ram is rated at 1600mhz 7-7-7-20 1.7v but that fails in seconds, 1.75v helps a lot but fails after 4hours, 1.8v helps slighy more but fails after about 5hours...'

i've even tryed the cpu-nb at stock but still the same

Gareth: It wasn't unheard of on the C2 silicon for 1333mhz+ to be flaky, I haven't seen any widely reported issues with C3 silicon.. in-fact I would have thought that 1600mhz would be a breeze.

I see you are running a UDP5, there were known issue pre Bios version F8C with running 1600mhz RAM mostly reported with G-Skill.. so not sure if your running an older Bios version than this?

i did update to F8C when it was released then after about a week i droped back down to F7 because the issue was still the same, then afew days ago i've updated to F8C again because i wanted to use the core control..

I lasted 6 hrs prime blend on 1333 9-9-9-24 1T @ 1.65v! - same as before Prime95 just stopped responding - didnt error out as usual.

all stock settings. really don't want to give the mem more juice just to get to 1333 stable let alone 1600mhz @ 3v at this rate... :(

Looks like these 1600 DDR3 modules ainted liked by our CPU's. Anyone else running 1600Mhz DDR3 modules?

Gareth: Out of interest what RAM are you running?

As you point out could just be the IMC on the CPU only being rated at 1333mhz... But still an odd one...

Wayne: I have modified the offending posts :)
