I've only been once so can't give you too much advice but head over too the Epping Hard Cru website and give them a shout (excuse the name, nice bunch of lads who ride for a laugh) they will be more than willing to help, the forum is more active later on in the week organising rides. My username is Unistrut.

Name of the road at High Beech is Nursery Rd!

I don't think so. I have only been about 3 times. Once cycling from Hertford along the canal path and back (which is a pleasant ride which I recommend) and twice drving there. Each time I was welcomed by misserable faces who wouldn't return my hello. And once by a misserable Londener who attempted to push me off my bike.

I don't really do much around York its self as its too flat really,

What about Stainburn/Norwood Edge over by Leeds ? almost the same distance as Dalby ?

It makes a nice change and you can do a few laps of it as its short, and mess about on the north shore stuff.

Or what about Brayton Barf just south of selby, I used to go there as a teen as it about the only decent sized hill in the vale of York that's worth climbing and decending. I've not been there in like 14 years so it might not be all that !

I'll probably give it a visit at some point soon as I'm only 2 miles away from the Bish/Naburn bridge on the Sustrans trail and it sort of gives you a reason to go through Selby !

Check this link as under my mates have done this a few times, a bit flat like but a circular route. Maps and a write up of it on our site. I've not tried it yet they seam to think its OK.

Have been Brayton barf is fun for a pootle but they have now put up signs saying no bikes there :( I live in the no mans land between Selby and York! It couldn't get any flatter here.

Just gonna ride the Sutrans trail for some fitness.

Is that Ricall then ? what about a river Ouse ride on the East side of the Bank ?

When did the sign go up at Brayton barf then ?
 
Looking to go on a little riding trip to Wales soon, has anyone here rode the red trails at Coed Y Brenin and rode Cannock Chase? The Chase is the only place I ride at the moment, so it's all I have to compare to.

Are the Coed Y Brenin trails much harder to ride?

You could always go up Garrowby hill? It's a bit of a way out, but it's good fun to come down (as long as nobody sees you :p). There's the alternative of doing the back road between York and Malton? It's not really downhill/uphill as such but some of the hills and bends in the Bulmer area are fun.
 
I've been riding a Specialised Hard Rock Pro for about 2 years now and, whilst I initially started doing offroad/downhill etc, I'm finding myself doing more and more road mileage. Rides are anything from 17 to 32 miles which I'm doing 4 times a week.

With that in mind, I'm playing on getting myself a second hand roadie but that will be in the winter when perhaps prices will be a bit cheaper. In the meantime, would I see any benefit from fitting different tyres to my Hardrock? I'm thinking something more suitable for pure road use but I'm a bit of a noob at this so could do with some advice :)
