whats really ironic is, even tho I started this thread way back when, I have only just ordered the Zotac 470 on this week special offer, today with free delivery.
 
Still messing about with different BIOSs/voltages/clocks etc. So far 840's been the max I can get stable on the 470's cores at 1125mv.

That looks reasonably impressive there mate :) What settings is that at? Care to share some GPU performance figures? :p Still trying to decide on SLI 470s (one now, one later) or a 480 now...just means extra outlay now :p

Also, what kind of temps you seeing with the 470s on your loop? Idle and load?
 
On stock volts the idles 30-32, load's in the high 40s. I can get to 800 core on 1000mv and it's vantage stable over 10 loops, it tops out in the low 50s then.

At 1100mv (using a modified bios) I can get to 850core, it's furmark stable in xtreme burning mode and vantage stable using performance settings but it crashes after 4 loops with a "Driver stopped responding error" when I turn all the settings up full (shaders AA etc) and the res to 1080p, so i'm still playing to get a balance.

The load tops out mid 60s above 1100mv (but bearing in mind I'm only running 2 GT fans at 1200rpm), so it's silent apart from the pump, better fans could improve things but I hate load fans.

I'm not sure the extra voltage for 20-30 more core's really worth it, so may go back to 800 24/7 and enjoy the lack of noise.
 
800MHz core is DAMN impressive considering what stock speed is! That's amazing mate. Do you only have your 470 SLIs on a single loop? What is the game performance like though :p That's the most important bit ;) But very impressive temps! Just makes the case for watercooling even more clear :D
 
Yes, loop just for the GPUs, The CPU's more than happy on air at 4ghz and I didn't think it needed to go under water really.

I tried all sorts to get the 470's overclocked on air but it always resulted in loads of noise for a really decent OC, (I had a pair of 5850s before this and they were very quiet in comparison).

So after seeing the results Gabe was getting at XS using the MCR220 Drive I bit the bullet and built a loop for them, it's very simple, Radiator, pump and res are all one unit.

Gaming's been limited so far as I'm still playing with the OC but Metro is much better the second time around, better drivers and the extra mhz have definitely helped.

The beast has arrived :eek: straight in at 830 core and no extra volts, max temp looping heaven was 77c with custom fan profile that topped out at 70% fan speed so not bad temps with an extra 130 on the core and a hot summers day, will do a 5870 1000 core v 480 850 core later on.

Just got my 480 to replace crossfired 5770's. It's not loud, it's not especially hot (even with dual screens) and it performs really nicely. I'm glad I ignored the sceptics.

Totally agree... my GTX480 has been coping very well during these hot muggy days no problem at all and I have never heard any noise over my HAF X 200mm case fans.

I am curious why some have had the noise / heat issues?
The brand I purchased was the Palit.

Had my Zotac 470 GTX for about two weeks now and my benchmark results are below. Card is running at factory settings and using 258.96 drivers.

Quick review for those considering the EVGA backplate and high flow bracket. Backplate looks great and it dissipates a hell of a lot of heat from the back of the GPU, lowered max temps by 4c. The bracket did not make any difference from what I could tell but overall I'm very pleased with the backplate and seeing as I got the bracket for free I can't grumble.
