<<<=====LOWEST PRICE IN THE UK - MSI ATI HD 5850 Twin FrozR Graphics Card ONLY £124.99 Delivered!!==

Will this fit in a thermaltake soprano case?

From the FAQ for the Thermaltake Soprano VX & RS found here:
http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?S=1184&ID=1452#Tab5

Q: What is the longest graphics card that may be used with this chassis?
A: This chassis will fit a video card that is no longer than 10.5".

The card dimensions found here:
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=prodvgaspec&maincat_no=130&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=2029

Card Dimension(mm) 257*106*36mm

10.5" is about 267mm .
So appears to say it may fit , depending on what else is installed in the case.

That's got the be the worst list I've seen. The 4890 is ~5770 with factory oc (today's drivers) and the 5850 is 30-45% quicker depending on the game, not to mention the heat/oc ability of msi cards.

The list was only meant as a reference, still I suppose it depends on a personal definition of a "decent upgrade"
A possible 30-45% upgrade for £125 for me just doesn't cut it.
However if say it was a something like a Geforce 8800 or similar card thats a good few years old, upgrading to the 5850, that would be a different matter.

Any chance MSI will be selling their 5770 Hawk's off cheap too? As looking at the card dimensions I'll probably be better off with a smaller card.

And it's probably going to be some time yet before this cooler appears on 6850's, for more money than this is going for.

+1

A fine deal, and I probably would have got one if this had came out a few weeks earlier. Then again i'm very happy with the card I got.

Hi there

Just checked they do indeed come with the FREE Assassins Creed 2 PC Game, damn this really is a deal and a half.

- Twin FrozR Cooler
- Uprated MSI design
- FREE GAME

I think I sold these too cheap! :D

What makes the MSI ATI Radeon HD 5850 Twin FrozR II (£124.98 atm), so much better than this other card HIS ATI Radeon HD 6850 1024MB GDDR (£134.98 atm)?

Apart from the cooler, which I'd sooner remove in favor of a VGA waterblock anyway, is it just down to the overclocking potential of the MSI? , does that make the card better than the 6850?

Keep getting the itch too upgrade and ATI's eyefinity it one thing I'd like to try too. Thats where the 5850 also stumbles as it only has the 1x DVI connector, think i read somewhere that the HDMI can't be used in an Eyefinity setup (need to use 2x DVI and the displayport with adaptor)

Seems the 5850 would make a good 2nd card in a crossfire setup, although if I did upgrade at this point it and wanted an ATI card, I'd be better off with the 6850 for this kind of money.

Or am I just missing the point and this card is better than it appears to me?

The 5850 is a faster card then the 6850.

The specs show it to have 2 dvi connectors.

Display Connectors: 2 Dual-Link DVI-I, 1 HDMI & 1 DisplayPort

I've already posted in this thread that the text under the picture is wrong and the MSI spec sheet confirms there is only 1 DVI

http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=pr...=&prod_no=2029

It only has 1 DVI , 1 HDMI and 1 Displayport

However what makes the 5850 faster (or better) than the 6850 was my question, just saying its faster is hardly a comprehensive answer.

AMD changed their range designations - a 5850 should be compared to the 6950. The 6850 is a mid range card around the 5770/5830 area.
