*** Official 500m Rowing Challenge***

1:40 dead for me :D Pretty surprised considering I've not done anything like this before; although I do use the rower for tabata cardio!

Tell you what though, I did my front squats afterwards (had a break first!!) and boy were they a struggle! Doing 15s at the moment and it was my 5th session, so 57.5kg. Did the first set, but couldn't make it past 12 on the second set :D Legs made of jelly!

Haha nearly killed myself doing this just now. Actually couldn't finish the distance mainly due to the fact I started at 48spm :o Was dead after 150m! Will have another go later once I've prepped the dinner! :o

Will give this a go, have a concept 2 in the gym so will have to figure out set it to 500m, normally just select "just row"

I know I can go 2000m in under 8 mins

Only problem is, the people in the gym stuck a big lcd screen in front of the rowers so its off putting and I can never zone in, why the **** do people want to watch sky sports bloody news in a gym.

Woooo! More people that are fans of the erg, it's by far my favourite cardio machine. Have never bothered with a max 500m as i always train 2k+ or 8*500m intervals. My usual test ergs are 2k and 5k

2000m - 6.52.1 (1.43.0 per 500)
5000m - 18.36.3 (1.51.6 per 500)

Annoyingly whilst doing that 5k, some thief was breaking into my locker and stealing my car. Found it trashed on a council estate and a write off. RIP my little civic :(

When I'm next there I'll get on a 500m, recovering from a crazy week in ayia napa at the mo :D

Yep I am a super erg fan, my fellow on the water rowers think im nuts for loving it so much lol. In my opinion rowing>erging>sculling - if I ever have the choice between erging and sculling erging wins every time :D

Personally I am working on my 5k PB at the mo, concentration on lifting my weight off the seat at the catch. The 500m is just a bit of fun.

1:33.1 for me.
I started of at a sub 1:30 pace but couldn't sustain it. I don't think I was even rowing when I crossed the finish line. My lungs were on fire and I needed a blast of my puffa when I'd finished! Not rowed or done any CV for a while.

Damper setting was 10, not that it matters.

Had another crack today with a different tactic; a bit more steady at the start and caned it for the last 100m... net result, not much change but slightly better.

1:32.4 (concept2, damper 10).

I honestly don't think I can give it any more oomph!

Had a free pass for the gym at a local Q hotel this morning and had another crack at this on their Concept 2.

Easy 10 minute warm-up on a cross-trainer and then nailed it - 1.39.9 :D Felt like throwing up after that effort though

1:52:08 on a Concept 2 today. 28yrs old haven't been to the gym in 10 years, let alone used a rower. I do do a bit of cycling to keep relatively fit though.

I'm hoping to get this down to 1:40:00 before the end of the month.

edit: I must add, I've haven't been this exhausted in years! I felt like I was going to be sick!

Did a 1:34:2 today - level 5, 32 spm.

Although it was a bit of a last minute decision after a weights session and some rowing intervals.

Will try doing it fresh at some point and see if I can knock a second or so off.

EDIT: Think I need to up my spm, seem a tad low if I want a truely quick time :o
