Project - Charity Build- Narcolepsy UK

I liked XFX Europe too, it is only fair :)

Cheers , competition now over and winner announced, Phew that was quick, Lots of really nice comments from the XFX community

Connor and his uncle attempted the side panel spray a little while ago, They tried using a new masking tape to avoid cutting lots of stencils/templates like he did with the front panel. Unfortunately, we don't know why but the tape just didn't work. The paint bled really bad... :(

Thankfully our nice friends over at
Plasti_Kote_Spray_Paints-1.gif

http://www.plasti-kote.co.uk/

They sent some paint over and help us "fix" it.

We're still planning to add Sponsor names on the side with some vinyl’s before adding a few coats of clear to seal it all and give it a nice glossy shine.

We'll tackle the respray this weekend hopefully

Thats a 'super' gift! :D

Sure is ! :D

Well not really much to share today, having one of those days/week :p

Our plans to raise some awareness in our local town have ended abruptly, We hoped to raise a few quid with some raffles and such, lots of people said they would do this and that, one by one have let us down.

Facebook page is similar, We had received lots of messages with offers that don't materialise, We've been running a few giveaways lately too, but on announcement day, people unlike the page or write immature things.

anyways...the builds

Our attempt to "Fix" the paint on the side panel had ended not so well..

We picked up some "Frog" Tape, added the black paint which was perfect! really clean lines and a nice mirror gloss finish,

Their was a few small areas of yellow that needed touched up. So re masked the panel again, resprayed the yellow..

unfortunately the yellow paint ran and bled ...again ...

but more baffling than that...

I've no idea what happened, its like the tape despite being low tack has magically absorbed the black? Its left some most unique patterns too:rolleyes:

Literally baffled.

So here we go again , we'll paint it ago tonight. Fingers crossed.:p

Our last few things to do, items waiting to be shipped to us etc, have been held up due to problems here at home. I understand on the face it out , it should be a case of just putting it together, we're just not having much luck lately.

Really starting to panic about the CPU for this build too, I'm sure we have exhausted all options in terms of sponsorship... Our target build date of July 30th is seeming more and more unlikely.

Anyhow, I hope to share more positive news, next time pending this paint job haha.

glent: Just sent you email via your trust account, let me know if you don't get it (or email my trust so I have your address) hopefully can help with your supply issue.

buy some scotch painters tape, that should do the trick :)

hehe that what assumed Frog tape as , it cost enough :D

Right then..Have some rather epic news!

Biffa made a most noble gesture and offered to supply a CPU . Which was amazing :D

I wasn't aware until this morning he had also approached the Team OcUk members , appealed for support.

So many have rallied to support us, biffa informed me earlier, that they have exceeded their initial target.

An a Intel 2600 has been ordered!

Gratz! Scotch painters tape is better (or MNPCtech says)
:) How will I be able to enter the giveaways?

Just received your request glent, will get this moved to General Discussion :)

It would seem there are a lot of people who would like to donate, but have just not seen the thread in this quiet corner of the forum.

welcome to the 56 page computer log, can you move myne to GD? when I start modding my case (thanks for the inspiration Connor) :)

this is the second thing tonight that has filled me with joy, on the back of such a bad day, good luck with everything. and i will be following the thread with earnest :D

Normally, things like this annoy me (I'm dead inside I know) but I have to be honest, fair play. It's not often I'll donate to a random cause, but I thoughly enjoyed reading this and for once its nice to read about someone (espically so young) doing something good for someone else. I've made a small donation.

Right then , no pics today I'm afraid guys.

Myself and connor have been down to London yesterday, Journey was long and stressful . so naturally we're rather tired, have a few other projects going on at home with the kids also . Sorry to say our target of July 30th, to have both builds done and photos uploaded, is not possible any more.

The CPU arrived today, Once again Team OcUK ,applause all round. :D

We can't install it today because...

We have some parts on their way back to use very soon, can't spoil it but we're excited to piece them together. The work done is something neither I or Connor could have done, even with access to the required hardware. Anyway won't spoilt it ....

Work left to do-

  • Install sleeved cables for both builds (Awaiting shipment)
  • Paint side panel and attach vinyl’s for the antec build
  • install the window
  • Install and bench/stress the main hardware in the antec build
  • Resolve the ongoing on-board wifi issue (Fractal design Build)
  • Bench /stress test the builds

Work no longer possible/not likely -

Fan Painting,
Had overlooked the way the noctuas are put together. Not all models can be dismantled. *might* looking into masking them but really not likely.

The fans have the Marmite affect, Personally Connor andI love them , not everyone’s taste I know .

The colours don't work with all builds. I know having them match the rest of the builds would be logical. Time will tell

Having Microsoft Windows preinstalled

.Due to communication breakdown with microsoft, not looking likely. Our replies have been somewhat generic, have had to follow up several times to point out they not read our mails correctly, or missed the point,

The current situation being only charities themselves, are eligible to receive support with free software, time is against us and fee's would be required to be paid. That goes against what we are doing, we can't expect the charity to front fees are fill is mass of paperwork etc.

Could ship them out with some sort of Linux Distro installed instead? The winner can always replace with their own copy of windows instead but at least they are usable.

Ubuntu or something would be good.

Would definitely recommend that, can't see the winners complaining at possibly having to buy their own Windows 7 for £80~ especially after winning computers worth hundreds of pounds.

If they do, take the pc back :p
