why ?
i find it easier to use than the mg guns, which ok can be effective but to track a randomly moving target with lead etc :x
i have the rockwind or whatever mg too

Got the pathfinder twinfusor last night. Not sure which I prefer though. I feel I am less accurate with it than the dueling spinfusor as I'm spamming the fire button instead of timing my shots. Guess it's going to take some time to get used to.

I don't really play tech but it's a good class for newer players. In permafrost your role is quite important.

I'm enjoying it. Just had a bit of a run and was doing pretty well it seems, though there are some right numpties playing tech too and placing turrets in the most stupid positions, meaning you can't create any sort of choke points of crossfires around the flag/generator.

Also only just realised you can upgrade base turrets and radars... Base turrets I understand, not too sure what the point in upgrading radars is though.

I can't believe they've implemented the fake aussie voice, it's so bloody irritating. Especially when several people in every game have it. I seriously don't know how long I'll be able to continue playing TA before that voice becomes too much. I joined CTF game as soon as I had downloaded the patch and had to leave within 2 minutes because of it. It's literally enough for me to stop playing the game as you're hearing it every couple seconds.

As a New Zealander I think the voice is quite funny, in fact it was the first thing I brought :p

You do know you can turn the voices off right? No need to stop playing lol.

Yeh, I just found out you can turn VGS off, but that's annoying because I find hearing it useful. So now I either have to listen to the aussie voice or not hear any at all.

Public games in general are in coordinated but without any means of talking to your team you don't have much hope. Once you guys have been playing little longer maybe if you want you can step up to pick up games.

Diefic start puggin and you won't need to hear the vgs voices.

Noticed there has been quite a few changes but none for the sentinel apart from the spectre skin which I will check out tonight. Anyone know how much it is?

I think the balancing on this game needs to be addressed though, even if it means splitting it into arcade mode and pro mode. Arcade mode for pubs and pro mode for leagues and comps. Playing as a sniper in a public I find I get killed awfully easy by pretty much everything. I'm getting a bit better with my falcon but because of the lags im finding it hard to learn a new set of game physics as well as compensate my aim for lag :(

It strikes me that nearly every class has an explosive splash based weapon apart from the sentinel (not including items like claymores, grenades etc). I fought a heavy with my falcon last night and I must have hit him close to 40 times before he died! Thats nearly 2 full clips dead on target. Luckily he was a bad heavy and I won, but I feel its a little unfair that every other class gets a high damage close/mid range splash/explosive weapon that does not nerf their energy. You cant duel with a phase rifle as it makes you a sitting duck and you cant duel with a BXT1 because it needs to be scoped. I also find the Falcon to be under powered as when duelling 1-2 hits from a spinfusor or any other similar weapon and I am dead, whereas I have to hit 20-30-40 shots depending on the enemy. Even if I only get tagged with splash, it normally takes around half of my life, sometimes a little more. :(

As a sniper you would probably run a second player as protection in a comp game, but you never get that help in a pub which effectively limits the snipers effectiveness. So much so that it is almost a pointless class. You can't really chase, you cant really duel and you are open to every infil who wants to put a knife in your back because you never get any protection. You can hit a few shots at full power but actually the majority of them are way under powered even with the phase rifle. It does 510 max but you only realistically get 1 shot at that because in a pub you need to run with a drop jammer so have a slower energy charge. Most of my phase rifle shots land at around the 90-200 mark. Whereas even a basic light spinfusor does 770!

Its getting to the point now where I really cant be bothered playing Sentinel in pubs, especially now with this new added lag I seem to be experiencing.

I think I might try a new class as pubbing as a sentinel is getting too frustrating. It feels to me that sentinel is not blanced or suited to pubs at all (indeed I think the whole game suffers a conflict of interest with regard to pub/comp balance).

Shame really. They perhaps should strip it down a little bit and balance things a bit better for public play. Then have a second mode for comp play.

The last couple of days have been really bad for me. I am getting awful lag in servers, but the funny thing is, it does not appear to be me. My ping is stable, and although my FPS goes up and down, its very rarely in the red zone, averageing between 30-40 FPS. However I have noticed I get far lower FPS when scoped looking at distant targets. Does anyone know why all this is happening?

I'm playing sentinel with a phase rifle and I have had major headaches hitting flag carriers. Which is another odd thing. It seems to affect flag carriers more for some reason (??). They appear to 'skip' every second or two.

My PC isnt the worlds best but it ran the game fine last week. I didnt play for a few days, and now the game is laggy :(

I'm running on low settings with 1280x1024 resolution.

Cheers

Buff

Buffet, there is one tweak you can do to majorly increase FPS, and that's to set 'DynamicLight=False' in the tribes.ini file, this gives me an extra 30/40 frames but makes the game very dark, some people can cope.. others can't.

Your game will look similar to this with DynamicLight set to false:

I was getting lag last night mate and my PC and connection are high spec. Hopefully things will improve for you.

Regarding Sniper, I wouldn't give up as there are some snipers that totally dominate pubs on certain maps like crossfire, Arx. Perhaps next time you see one, spec him? I realise the spectate mode is useless for snipers but it may give you someclues as to how he is getting more kills than you?

Otherwise perhaps try soldier. You will need quickdraw and saftey third as well as the AR and Thumper DX.

Uhhhhm, it already looks like that........? Almost identical......

Yeah I thought soldier, but I also thought maybe raider.

With regards to kills I think its mostly about accuracy. Which at the moment I havent got because im still trying to find consistency and learn the physics.

Im struggling with the imbalance of pubs but dont feel like I am good enough for pugs.

Catch 22!

It honestly depends on the map, Arx Novena, Raindance, Stonehenge, Katabatic aren't affected too bad by this change. But Drydock is extremely dark, to the point where its almost unplayable.

You'll have to try it and see for yourself, but i'm sure at the very least you'll be amazed just how many frames you gain.

About the lag: I guess it could be down to a surge of players from the patch, maybe things need to settle down.. they took the servers offline for an hour or two early this morning, lets hope this will have fixed the lag issues.

Honestly, out of all the classes the SEN is probably the worst to choose to start with, you don't get to ski too much, nor do you get to see how inheritence changes your shots, you don't get to duel or get in the thick of the action like you do with say a Soldier, Raider or Jug for example.

I'm not sure how your movement is on this game, but simply dodging / strafing as you would in Quake is only viable against Automatic weapons, when you are fighting against an enemy using an explosive weapon you actually need to do the opposite, try to jet and force them to go for the mid-air. If you do this correctly you can make them get out of sync, when you hit the floor they'll be reloading. Only downsides to this is that the smart players will wait for you to hit the floor, and the good players will just shoot you in the air.

Against enemies like Jugs the worst thing you can do is get close, use their massive hitbox and slow movement against them.

But knowing how to take on enemies takes experience, you need to have an understanding of other classes and how they are played to truly know how to counter them.

The difficulty in sniping in T:A is it requires long, slow panning sweeps with your mouse. This is different to scoping in most games, which normally require a lot more flick shotting. I'm still trying to get used to it. Learning where cappers come from is handy, so you can line yourself up with there routes to minimise the amount of movement you have to do with your mouse.

Some games I can't miss, then others I hardly hit a thing. It's strange, lag plays a big part. A couple of days ago I was playing on a pub, and an enemy capper had a consistent ping of 200-220... he was unhittable. It was like he was an agent or something. Not sure if you can do this deliberately using config settings or anything, but it was pretty effective :p

I'm not sure just how many people are interested in this, but i'll post anyway.
