How to start playing 7v7 CTF PUGS (Pick-up Games)
So, you played the game for a while and felt a hunger. You searched for others with interest in the game and found r/tribes, you read up on the game and learned, and the hunger was abated. Time has gone on, and the hunger has returned. The public matches are getting stale, your opponents are usually far beneath your skill, so much so that they make it hard to play a good match. The randomness is getting to you, and you want more. This is natural, it is showing you that it is time for you to move on. To face others with a similar, goal-orientated mind set. It is time to PuG.
In light of the recent posts consisting of some variant on "Looking to pug with you guys!" and the spinfusor.org article on casual/competitive scenes, I have decided to try and make a one-stop-shop for the pug information.
PuGs should not be a scary thing, they are just a way to play the game against others that actually want to play the objectives. They are the next logical step to increase your skill at the game.
Joining a pug is simple, and I'm going to try and make it as streamlined as possible.
Join the mumble below. Label it whatever you want, your username should be your tribes name. (Don't have mumble? You should.)
Make sure you have push-to-talk enabled1, or your speach recognition well configured. The random breathing/noises will annoy many people.

  • Right click->self->change comment. Put in order your main roles (capper, chaser, offense, defense, HoF). Not really needed, but is useful if there are 20 cappers and no defense to see what else people play.
  • Search through the channels for TA:Mixed Sign up Via Mumble and enter into the role section you want to play.
  • Wait for some games to start and have some fun.
  • If they are already in game, just hang out. After two games, they will come back to the roles and repick.

General rules:
  • Friendly Fire is on.
  • Jackal, smoke grenades, plasma gun(/cannon?), and white outs plus a few new weapons are all banned. Just ask when you join what your not allowed.
  • Sentinels: one per team, unless the teams are over 10 players each. Then two are allowed.
  • No upgrading base assets.
  • Shrikes: one per team, cost 9000 credits.
  • Call ins: No tactical or orbital strikes. Bonus reputation for killing someone with an inventory station.

CTF Roles:

  • Capper (Pathfinder)
  • Light Defence (Soldier / Technician / Sentinel)
  • Light Offense (Raider / Soldier)
  • Heavy Offense (Juggernaut)
  • HoF (Doombringer)
  • Chaser (Pathfinder)

I have spoke to webbo about this already. The original poster was perma banned and we all want to add useful info to the OP for new players. Webbo will be closing the old thread and setting up redirect around 8pm.
 
You should start playing pugs with us mate. Kiwi plays soldier O or D so can help you out.

As for unlocks that's a difficult one as I'm not sure which you will enjoy the most. I do like flag D in doombringer but you need super heavy perk unlocked also. Raider is decent without unlocking extra stuff. Sniper really requires a lot of unlocks to be really effective.

Nothing bad about paying for a game you enjoy. I would expect most people have paid in some sort of way for items or boost etc. The starter pack is a good choice to start. a lot of items come on the daily deals so if your going to buy them with gold maybe wait till then for slashed prices.
 
Deific you got picked into a bad team. You and the other guy capping were both first timers which isnt a role I would advise playing to start with. I thought u were going to chase or something. The whole reason we re picked is our team was so strong compared to yours.

And really you cannot cap without a mic. Saying you did better than the other guy then yea thats true but he was a total nub. Not been able to co-ordinate the O was destined to fail. You may have got out with a lucky cap but thats all it would have been.

Some guys are very new to it and some are top EU players. Its a mix and what's better about pugs is the team play which if you had a mic you would have seen. You say you have a mic on order so please dont give up on pugs they really can be great when teams are fair and your all working together.

@Astaeri: How you liking thrust? Sucks not having as much energy dont it. Makes some routes harder but its what everyone uses so its possible with practice.
