North Face jackets, thoughts?

I thought my hiking jacket from Tog24 was pretty good although I'm not all that up on explorer gear, I did note that the expensive (£180+) North Face gear was pretty well put together and had some nice technical features.

Super Dry is for chavs btw.

Everyone is wearing superdry in London from bankers to shop assistants.

In fact the only type I haven't seen wearing Superdry are scumbags with baseball caps and hoodies. I'm sure there are some though.

Superdry is definitely 'in' down south and offer a range of styles. Comparing Superdry to the North face brand vs brand is supid - NF obviously cater for a specific market and style along the same vein as Berghaus.

Which is why they are a long way away from being cool. They have gone too mainstream. Like you say, there are all sorts of people wearing it thinking they are 'cool', when they are anything but. The fact that the quality is crap and the brand has been produced by a guy living in Cheltenham just adds to the fact. I reckon most people buying it are thinking they are buying into some cool clothing from Japan.

Far play to Julian Dunkerton he must be rolling in it.

That fact that the brand is no so ubiquitous would surely make it less desirable?

Anyway, labels aside, at least a north face jacket will have some practical use too.

And for a different recommendation get a RAB jacket.

What? The fact that they are popular makes them less desirable?

I don't know nor care if they're cool or not but they make fine jackets for skiing. Ours have lasted a while and do what they're supposed to do. We saw some North Face stuff in Vietnam (a lot of stock is made there) for the equivalent of NZ$10, so 5 pounds. Here the same jacket would cost NZ$500. Quite unbelievable.

e : ^ Jesus Christ, that is an amazing username + post combo!

no it isn't

ford mondeos are everywhere and are easily obtainable

aston martins aren't

which is more desirable as a brand?

Not as pertinent as you think it is Dowie.

Budget/functional cars should not be compared to fashion. You are far more limited by your choice of car.

furthermore Ford (replace with any mass scale manufacturer) is rarely fashionable. We have established that Superdry seems to have fallen out of favour but was once certainly a very fashionable brand.

The issue is really what makes something cool - in my honest opinion people who preach about what is cool are utterly pretentious.

BMW, the VAG group cars and Mercedes are mass scale manufacturers and are seen by some as fashionable, to continue the car analogy. They are also functional.
