** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

Yes! :D

Can't wait for it, only gone with the red switches as i've done a lot of research and out of the two about 90% say they prefer reds as they're easier to press, hope i've made the right decision.

Is there any mechanical keyboards out there that are relativity cheap? Say under the 40 quid mark? Would love to get one, but I just can't justify spending that much money on one. Nor would my other half :P

You're looking at £65+ at overclockers, well basically anywhere. But then you get what you pay for.

You'd probably struggle finding one second hand at that price point too.

Just as a 'heads up' for others in my situation, I have just bought Wasdkeyboard's sample kit to help me choose a keyboard.

It includes all 4 main switches, the 3 o-ring types and keycaps for all of their colour range. I will report back how I find it when it arrives, but something like this would be very useful for anyone who wants to buy their first mechanical keyboard. :)

Just got the CM Storm Quick Fire TK in, seems really good.

I've had my eye on this for a while, would love to know your thoughts on it after some use! I really like the idea of a tenkeyless with the numpad, I use a super low sens so the more desk space the better.

I've just fitted some rubber o-rings to my Qpad MK-85, I have to say I love the feeling with these on - just seems a bit 'softer' and reduces the travel even more.

I tried them on my Filco with browns but didn't like that as much, removed a lot of the 'crispness' that I like about the keystrokes.

I really cant decide on a key type. I have the G19 at the moment, I do like the look of that G710, or the MK-85, or the Gigabyte Osmium....!

For a reference, which switch is closest to a normal keyboard like the G19? Black?

Oooh, now there's an idea. Will order one myself i think...

Have you got yours yet?:)

Dont quote me on this, but it should come without any brand logos/names on it except on the top back bit on the left hand side where the USB cable is connected into. Along with a space bar with nothing on it.

My one (ordered a little over a month ago) had no branding on any of the keys, and used text for all keys, such as "WIN" for Windows.

Well my sample kits been shipped already. Just gotta wait for it to get here!

Mine took 5 days to arrive. Pardon my ugly foot in the 1st pic . I bought the sample kit just for the keycap. The pink one kinda surprise me, I may get a set :D

Decided on Blacks with the 40A-R dampener :)

That was taken with an iPhone 4, which has an amazing camera..., but the keycaps feel very nice, and the bright ones ARE bright!

Alright I got my CM Storm Quickfire tenkey less. This is the 'new' batch without all the CM Storm logo's plastered all over the place and i've got a comparison shot of it next to my Sidewinder X4.

Now here's the bad thing. After using it for around 5-6 hours in one session I found the red cherry mx keys are far too easily pressed. I went with the red as i've done a bit of research into it and these are meant to feel the best, be least fatiguing and ideal for gamers.

I think I might be the only one here as everyone seems to love reds but these press far too easily. Literally barley any force is needed to activate a key, I swear some people are women when I see them whinge that they get tired after using a keyboard with black switches.

And finally number 2. I came to my senses and realised that i've just spent £70 on a keyboard and had a cold chill run down my spine.

I ended up using this for 2 days before returning it to give it a proper go but for £70 it just isn't worth it, these seem to currently be a 'novelty' thing imo. Yes the build quality is great and they feel tiny bit better to type on but again, not worth £70.

I'd probably get a black cherry one once the prices come down significantly but at this time they're just not worth the asking price.

So true :p

70 GBP for a keyboard is not that much tbh, considering I used to spent loads on Logitech G15/G19/Sidewinder X6. Mech keyboards are actually a bargain since they last much longer and the typing feeling is much much nicer. Made the switch several years ago and could never go back to membrane now sadly :(.

Maybe you need to try some of the tactile switches (Clear/Brown/Blue/White/Green).

Pic unrelated, just my addiction to mechanical (my Kbt pure and my 5th filcos) :p
