** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

What exactly is the difference between the MK-80 and 85 aside from the LED colour?

If i could get the 85 in Blue I'd have ordered by now, its just the red puts me off..... :/

I also like the Gigabyte Osmium, thinking its that or the MK-80/MK-85.

Hmmm, what to do...?

80 = blue led, 85 = red led, both are from the same OEM, just different led colour. Originally 80 = blue switch, then the red switch hype train comes along and qpad release the 85 with red switch. Now you can get brown/blue/black/red switch with each, depending on whether stores stock them or not.

Between the two, I'd say pick the one you like (aesthetically) more.

I want red switches, thats sorted. But i want blue LEDs to match my mouse etc... Gigabyte is looking tempting.....

I think Corsair do a blue-led keyboard with red switches? I may be wrong.

The Choc Minis from Noppo(Mispelt?) do varying colours.

Yep, UK layout, well, the one I bought is anyway. Much prefer it to my previous Razer BlackWidow ultimate with blue cherrys, feels better quality to me as well and that's saying something.

I bought a Cherry MicroSwitch keyboard about 10 years ago.
I still use it today.
My other computer uses an standard "el cheapo" keyboard.

All I will say is this: once you go microswitch, you won't ever want to use a non-microswitch keyboard. The difference is Massive.

The more you type, the more you appreciate just how bad non-micro switch keyboards are.

Some people say that going from HD to SSD is the biggest upgrade you can make. I disagree. The biggest upgrade I made was when I bought the microswitched keyboard.

To give you an idea, a non micro-switch keyboard has a spongy feel. When you perform a key-press, it lacks feedback. With a micro-switch keyboard, as you start pressing down on the key, at some point it "clicks" all the way down, giving you feedback that the key has been pressed.

People spend £500+ on a PC and then use a non-microswitch keyboard. The keyboard and mouse are the 2 ways you interact with the PC and IMO, these items should never be scrimped on.

I believe my keyboard uses the brown microswitches.

Cooler master seem to bringing out a few boards with GREENS!

Don't hotlink please

Greens are an interesting switch, much stiffer than I thought they would be, still prefer blues to greens though. I think we might see some more colours come out next year, depends if someone like Qpad or CM go crazy and start releasing every switch out there, or better, combine different types to make custom switches.

In any case, here is an unboxing video of the Quickfire TK, this is my next keyboard I think.

If anyone needs a key sample pack, send my a message with your address and ill post mine FCFS, decided on a Qpad MK-85 today so no longer the kit.

It'll be posted from Paris so take about 3 days to arrive to you in uk.

Indeed, I have the very same opinion on input devices. I would also add the Monitor to the list of things not to be scrimped on.

Just ordered a Noppoo Choc Mini with red switches.

That makes 3 mech keyboards now XD Filco(Browns), Qpad MK85(Reds) and this Noppoo.

Going to shove the MK85 on the MM if anyones interested.

Oh absolutely.
It's shocking that many people have spent huge amounts on their system and are using an el cheapo monitor.
