** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

never even heard of a dvorak and not sure if I would want to use one, they look really hard to learn to use :P I'm tempted to go for a us keyboard and that would take some getting used to with the smaller enter key and @ changed around, but could never use that o.o

Its supposedly more efficient seeing as qwerty was invented to stop typewriter jams. I'm learning it now, its not much more difficult than qwerty.

Thinking about it I need a keyboard with multimedia buttons specifically mute and volume controls so I think my only real choice is the Zowie.

Thats too big, I want one thats under 450mm length wise. I'd prefer a keyboard without the num keys but with media keys.

Very pleased with mine. You get play/pause, stop, skip forward, skip back, windows key lock, mute, volume down and volume up media keys, a tenkeyless layout and your choice of Cherry MX Black, Red, Brown or Blue switches.

anyone know if its possible to get a white filco majestouch-2 tenkeyless with brown switches? Found it with red/black but prefer brown, want white also for the keycaps I'm getting, just looks wrong on black :O

The Qpad mk-80 or 85 have media keys you use a Fn key and it converts f1 to f6 to the media keys. Also has the numberpad and is a fair bit short than the black widow.

On a side note after using my keyboard since tuesday it really is a joy to use, really glad i went with the blue switches now. :)

My only suggestion would be to order it from Taiwan. £80 + Shipping (they used to have a $20 international shipping promotion) + Taxes + Import Duty

However it is ASCII 87 (US layout)

There is a guide somewhere on the interwebs, I'll see if I can fish it out if you want more details.

Another thing you can do is order a Majestouch clone - that is a different company (Leopold of Korea) but is actually designed by the same person, but order it from the United States ($99 + ~$60 shipping + taxes + import duty)

However, depending on what key caps you have ready for it, then you may have to have the space bar key modified since it has non-standard placements that detract from the "Costar" design (such as Filco amongst others). Also the white brown keyboard they have in stock is only "otaku" layout, meaning it does not have any notations on the stock keycaps.

I was going to get the Zowie but they have the Qpad on offer now. Has anyone used the Qpad and know if its any good? Their is a review saying the media keys do not work without media player open. I'd prefer brown switches but I could probably live with red.

Really like these QPAD MK-85s. Had it for a couple of weeks now, good for a ton.

From all of the key types I have dabbled with, the cherry reds are my favourite. Browns a close second.

I haven't actually tried the media keys yet, only just bothered to install the software that comes with it.

The USB ports on the back have been useful, seems my RAT 7s cable wont reach the PC.

I have the Qpad mk-80 and its really well built, the media keys dont bother me to much and i think if you order direct from Qpad you can choose the switches you get. The keyboard has a really great feel and the wrist rest isnt to big like you get with some of the keyboards out there.

Little question on switches, I googled and couldn't really find the answer I'm looking for and with all you beautiful people here at my disposal I might as well. I believe Red switches are very sensitive, now when you read that it gives off a certain impression (Especially when you read that they also cause a lot of typos, but I'm not sure how) is this really the case? If so should I go for something with a bit more stiff in it's press. I'm basically between Reds and Blacks/Browns, but I have no idea which to go for, it seems most of the ones on OC are reds so is that what I'm best going with? Mainly an FPS gamer if that makes a great deal of difference.

I would go give them a feel somewhere, but I don't know anywhere that stocks mechanical keyboards near me.

Cheers chaps.
