**LETS SEE YOUR PILEDRIVER OVERCLOCKS - LET ME START WITH 5GHz+!!**

Tested Skyrim for a bit.
100's of FPS with the IVY.

With sync off it was so fast i couldn't see anything on the screen just a kaleidoscope of colours.

With sync on it just stayed at 60 as expected.

Humbug i think you just tested your VC not your CPU.

do a benchmark with fraps it will do a min run of min max and avg fps if you tick right boxes

interested in skyrim results as when i had my phenom quad at 3.7 in some areas would drop to 25-30 on max settings where as on i5 3570k even at stock its close to 60 min but mainly 100 fps

ive also seen benchmarks showing poor performance compared with pd and bd on skyrim in comparison but id like to see actual results confirmed rather than paid sites.

this benchie is actually close to what i seen previously

with 8350

BTW humbug make sure you have the latest patches installed for Skyrim,as these improved framerates. One of the reasons why Skyboost was introduced when Skyrim was launched, was to force the game to use more up to date compiler paths. Better compiler optimisations eventually came in with patch 1.4 and later.

Isn't it a steam only game? In that case it'll be kept up to date.

It's still x87 though isn't it so the results will be pretty much as expected. Still, I've found that the 8320 @4.6GHz is more than capable of pushing enough fps in a fully modded Skyrim with an OC'd 7970. Sadly, I don't have any actual number for you. :p

Edit; 8350 is back to 150 sheets. :)

Fascinating, i just updated it to v-1.7.

Frame rates could not be more different, its constantly boinking of the frame rate limiter, GPU usage was 60% to 75% and always at around 60FPS.

Same FRAPS run- Min 47 / Max 62 / Avg 59.372, as i said it did not drop below 60, i really need to get vSync turned off as i can not see any bottle-necking from the CPU yet.

Anyway, i have a bunch of games benched, i just need to figure out which Crysis2 map to bench, i will put the results up later.

PC Mark 7 with 6950 card 3 passes at 5.0GHz

WinRAR benching at 5GHz

Cinebench

Note computer primes OK with two threads, 4 workers is currently problematic but I have not been over 1.5V yet. OCCT will not complete without error either.

I an running lots of tasks etc. at 5GHz without any errors, seems fully stable but not used for games yet.

Edit- 6970, did not see that lol.

Obviously you have managed to get vSync off, and what GPU clocks?

8350 ordered. OcUK please send me a good clocker or PCZ will never let me forget it!! :D

Are you doing those Skyrim fps measurements with the game fully un-modded? I can do that opening sequence on my 8320/7970 tomorrow if it's of interest.

yeah mines stock (will be intresting to see comparison cheers)

just done the first mission campaign on bf3 started benchmark from entering train ended it as finished level

all settings max ultra x4 msaa 1080p i5 3570k @ 4.2 6970 stock

2012-11-30 13:19:09 - bf3
Frames: 6959 - Time: 144160ms - Avg: 48.273 - Min: 30 - Max: 72

so my old phenom 955 @ 3.7 on bf3 same mission did that avg 39 fps min 25

For benching Crysis 2 this is a good app, but i'm not going to use it for my eventual thread as i have the game installed on my mechanical drive and it starts the bench while its still loading giving a very low Min FPS, there is also no Max FPS and you can't use FRAPS on it.

BF3, this is OP: Sword Breaker car park battle only, From coming out of the gate to cross the road, into the building and on to the car park, FRAPS stopped when RPG fired.

The same bench used to choke my old 6950, not good.

No point in benching on BF3. Has been shown time and time again it is almost totally GPU dependant.

Planetside 2 however is very CPU demanding, but I am not sure you can get a fair bench on such a massive mutliplayer game?

I'm just interested as I am still using a Phenom II quad (965) and my mobo is a Sabertooth 990fx which will support PD so will be a relatively cheap upgrade once I sell the Phenom, if it is worth it.

can you run first mission on bf3 please for comparision

Right, the first mission is Semper Fields.

Starting from when the game starts on the Train roof smashing through the window, end in last carriage with gun in my face.

Gigabyte 7870.

1100 / 1200 (Stock)
Frames: 9491 / Time ms: 144675 / Min 44 / Max 94 / Avg 65.602

1200 / 1500
Frames: 10424 / Time ms 139824 / Min 55 / Max 102 / Avg 74.551

At stock thats 18 FPS on the Avg and 14 FPS on the Minimum more, a huge performance increase. Time perhaps for a GPU upgrade?
