R9 280x or R9 290

Looks like the core speed listing is a mistake on the OcUK website. :(

The 290X version clocks to 1050:
http://xfxforce.com/en-us/products/...amd-radeon-r9-290x-black-edition-r9-290x-edbd

But the 290 "only" clocks to 980:
http://xfxforce.com/en-us/products/...black-double-dissipation-edition-r9-290a-edbd

Annoying, but at least a simple move of a slider in Afterburner or CCC OverDrive will fix that if you do fancy running at 1050.

EDIT - website error reported to OcUK on the thread in General for reporting this stuff.

I thought that was the difference of the " OC Black Edition" is that it had a higher clock speed?

Anyway Im not bothered if its supposed to be running at 980mhz. So if its not the clock speed, whats the diff between the normal "XFX DD 290" and the "XFX DD OC Black Edition 290"?

What temperatures does it hit in games?

Well I ve just been playing "grid autosport" for roughly 2hrs and gpuz reported a max temp of 69c, with a temp of 22c in my room.

Hmmm having 90% fan on most gpu`s would be almost unbearable. If i was you i would seriously consider buying a bigger case just to provide better airflow, or maybe buy a waterblock for the new gpu if there are some available?

What temps do you get on auto fan speed?

Ive just tried the auto fan with 3D Mark, but like the 90% fanspeed doesn't bother me at all, plus when Im gaming I cant here the fans over the game anyway so no probs.

I would much prefer a bit of fan noise if it means increasing the life of the card, and ppl say that the R9's are likely to underclock there selfs when they get too hot,, so having a high fan speed might stop this from happening.

Thats kinda what i was saying. A bigger case would improve airflow whilst at the same time lowering fan speed and the noise. Surely lowering fan speed would actually benefit the card in the long run as it does`nt have to work as hard all the time, whereas you are forcing it to run the fan at maximum because you have no other choice just to keep it at a half decent temperature(This maybe even lowering the cards lifespan as the fan could go sooner). 90% fan all the time just seems to much for me especially when it can be easily sorted by a half decent case

hmmm 35% fan is still quite a bit just for windows and temp of 37 with 35% fan too when the pc is pretty much idle is a bit high too. Im far from a expert and i dont think thats a worry especially in windows but i have seen the average running temps of quite a few gpus in a lot of sytems and that gpu temp of yours under 35% fan is one of the hotter ones ive seen when the pc is pretty much idle. Anyway as long as your happy with it its a win situation so good luck :)

Edit: i have a 7970 sitting in mine at 33% fan with a temp of 31 so yours isnt that far off lol
