Does anyone know what the 5.0.1 changelog is? is it worth it? im rooted, but i think i can install it without losing data through nexus toolkit. Just are there any noticeable differences, or should i just wait for a chunkier update.

Two things first,

1) Have you updated to 5.0.1?
2) You will lose all your data as it will factory wipe to decrypted

Yes, it will stop updates but they are easy to manually flash. I'm unlocked, rooted & decrypted on 5.0.1

Thanks for the info, I'll have a look later when I can get 5 mins to myself :) I don't have 5.1, do I need a manual flash before I decrypt?

Can you flash 5.0.1 without loosing data/root?

I've just set my phone up as i want it and dont want to really do it again for the sake of an incremental update....

If you are completely standard you may as well OTA update to 5.0.1 and then factory reset / decrypt afterwards. You can decrypt at any stage I just wondered if you were stock and could update first.

I followed these instructions to upgrade to 5.0.1 from a unlocked, rooted & decrypted setup:

This guide is for windows and assumes you know how to connect your phone to your computer and boot your phone into the bootloader (easiest way is power the phone off, then hold volume-down and power). Your bootloader must already be unlocked for this to work correctly. If you are using a custom recovery, make a nandroid backup before beginning.

Begin by downloading the necessary files:

Factory images (download 5.0.1 for Shamu)

5.0.1 no forced encryption boot image

Optional: Chainfire's autoroot

1) Extract the following files from shamu-lrx22c-factory-ff173fc6.tgz to your "platform-tools" folder inside of your "android-sdk" folder:

radio-shamu-d4.0-9625-02.55.04.img
bootloader-shamu-moto-apq8084-71.05.img
image-shamu-lrx22c.zip

2) Open your "platform-tools" folder and rename 2 of the files you just extracted:

radio-shamu-d4.0-9625-02.55.04.img ---> radio.img
bootloader-shamu-moto-apq8084-71.05.img ---> bootloader.img

3) Open image-shamu-lrx22c.zip and extract the following files to your "platform-tools" folder inside of your "android-sdk" folder:

system.img
recovery.img

4) Move the no forced encryption boot image you downloaded earlier to your "platform-tools" folder inside of your "android-sdk" folder.

5) Rename your no forced encryption boot image:

boot-501-noforceencrypt.img ---> boot.img

6) Hold shift and right-click in any blank space in the folder with nothing selected. Select "Open command window here" from the right-click menu.

7) Enter the following command into the command prompt and ensure something comes up. If nothing comes up, stop here and troubleshoot the connection between your computer and your phone before proceeding to the next step.

fastboot devices

8) If you see your device, enter the following commands to complete the actual flashing. Enter them exactly as they appear, and do not skip any of them. Ignore the bold quoted text.

First we will flash the bootloader and radio.

fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img

fastboot flash radio radio.img

After flashing the bootloader and radio we need to reboot the bootloader.

fastboot reboot-bootloader

Now we'll flash the recovery. If you are running a custom recovery you can skip this step.

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Now we'll flash the no forced encryption boot image we downloaded earlier.

fastboot flash boot boot.img

Finally, we'll flash the system image. During this step it might sit on a line that says "target reported max download size of xxxx bytes" for a while, that's ok just let it do it's thing.

fastboot flash system system.img

Now just reboot your device and Android should start up.

fastboot reboot

It might take a while to boot. That's normal. After it boots it will say "Android is upgrading" for a while, then you're done.

9) This step is optional. If you were previously rooted you will need to root once again. Reboot your phone into the bootloader. Extract the files in the chainfire zip you downloaded at the beginning anywhere you want, then run the "root-windows.bat" file.

Alternatively. I believe Wug is upgrading his tool kit so you will be able to flash the 5.0.1 image with a decrypted boot image (if you go into the settings of the program you can turn off data wipe so you won't lose anything).

Can you flash 5.0.1 without loosing data/root?

I've just set my phone up as i want it and dont want to really do it again for the sake of an incremental update....

Follow the above and the only thing you'll lose is root which can be easily reflashed.

Ran antutu benchmark (unlocked, rooted, decrypted, 5.0.1) and scored around 43000, placing just below the oneplus one. Just installed leankernel and scored 49411, placing at the top of the list.

Going to try a -25mV undervolt and see how battery life is with this kernel.

edit: Just changed the colour profile, thought it was pretty white before (at least compared to previous phones) but it's very white now.

do you need root to change colours ?

yes, as well as a custom kernel.

What do you think of the screen?

Goes more than bright enough for me, I've had it with adaptive brightness off and set to 5-10% brightness. With the adjusted colours it looks really good. Maybe it won't look as good when sat next to a note 4, but I'm happy :)

Quick update, only fair as I slated the battery for it's performance yesterday. Today I'm home and it's 80% when it had been around 40% two days ago. The OnePlus One being around 82% at this point. Very good performance.

I'll shut up about the battery now until it's had time to settle in :)

I use my phone quite a bit, but I'm finding the battery to be pretty good. My S4 wouldn't last the day on the standard battery, and the Nexus isn't must worse then when I had the extended battery in the S4. It's good enough for me for certain! The turbo charger is great too, if it does die you can get a decent amount of charge in the time it takes to have a shower or whatever.

Have you even used it? :p mine was around 35% from 7.30am to 6pm. That's over 3 hours screen on time, and an hour of streaming music off google play over bluetooth.

Ye man, use it loads for texting and surfing the internet aswell as instagram, facebook. Bluetooth on with moto360 and full location services.

I friggin love this phone!!!!!!

Please stick with your judgement that the battery is pants! I swore I wouldn't spend £500 on a phone again! :o
