8GB but I have a feeling the next mainstream flagship from NVIDIA will be 6GB, Which will still be fine for most people

What people would like and what people can afford will likely be two different things.
Nvidia putting 12GB on Titan X is nice and all but you'll pay heavily for it. I imagine 8GB mainstream Nvidia cards are years away, they are notoriously stingy with vram and when they do offer it it costs the earth
AMD's HBM could be really pricey as well. 8GB HBM I doubt will come cheap..
I think we'd all like 8GB plus but likely won't all be able to afford the cards

The 780s are fine set of cards. Should serve you well for a good while to come.

Yep, should do. I dont mind lowering a few settings if need be to keep ram use in check.

Probably grunt you'll run out of rather than Vram, game dependant.

Surely a 1TB should future proof for a couple of years 
Judging by how often games are exceeding 3gb at 1080p nowadays, I'd be quite hesitant to buy anything with less than 6gb vram on board.
I thought I'd be safe with the 970 for a while but nvidia lied about its specs. Had I known that beforehand, I'd have never even considered buying it. Hopefully, this year'll bring a worthwile upgrade to the table. If the 390/390x comes with only 4gb I'm definitely skipping those cards.
