i think something has to change like memory stacking or something else
some more 5k monitors coming this year, + 8k tv's

if 8gb is needed for 4k, whats needed for 5k & 8k displays?

Too early to worry about that. There isn't a GPU system on earth capable of running games at that res any way.

some of the lame games i play i should think would run ok
but yeh maybe not things like dying light :)
those screens are coming, they expect no one to be able to game on them?

6GB while consoles can't use more due to unified usage and some sloppy ports coming out might deem a need for slightly more.

Running 4K ATM , I need a little more horsepower imo and a tad bit more VRAM on some games so a safe bet would be 8Gb.

6 gig would be nice, but to be honest the 3 gig that i currently have is holding up quite well, even at 4k on the games that i play i have not yet got close to maxing out my vram,

You're out of your mind about 8k screens.

What would be the point? No movies/video/tv to watch at 8k for most likely 10 years.

GPU advancement's have been so slow that it will probably be 10 years for GPU's to be avilable to run 8k at 60-144fps.

Have you ran 4k yet? or, more specifically, ran it on £1400 worth of video cards only to get 38 FPS as your min and hovering around 60 as your average?

LOL, you need a lot of power for it, so dreaming of 8k is, well, dreaming.

Come back down to earth man :D
