If a friend has really fast fibre optic internet and I have a rubbish broadband connection via wireless, can I copy his downloaded gta 5 downloaded folder on steam to my external hard drive and just put it on my PC? Apparently he cannot back up the game files by right clicking the game.

You can only do that after it unlock/decrypts on launch.

I tried to copy the encrypted steam file over already but steam didn't like it and just started downloading it all again.

You should be able to, copy over all the files in the steamapps/depotcache folder, as well as the steamapps/appmanifest_271590.acf file, that file tells steam that the data is there and what state it is in.

I will try that tomorrow and see if it works, I must have missed something before then as I copied the 59GB over and steam just started preloading from 0, I left it a bit to see if it would work it out but it didn't.

Didn't think it would matter if it was an official torrent? Just curious :)

I think it's more OcUK company policy, they don't want to check every link/torrent if it's legit and cba to get claims from bigots, so easier to just ban all torrent links ? Just guessing. I can understand the policy, even though I am personally of the opinion that it's retarded to conform to those copyright imbeciles/anti piracy bully's and I'd resist them out of principle if I owned a hardware retailer and the forums, however that takes manpower and thus money, and it's far easier for a company to just disallow torrent links to not have to deal with potential copyright idiots or even lawsuits. It's easier for the mods and/or company owners.

Either that or the company itself favours the policy of the copyright hounds, in which case I have my opinions about such a company for which I'd probably be banned off the forums for voicing it in their forums hehe :D.

I pre-ordered from Rockstar itself... Been downloading the game for the past 36 hours or so. The speed is like 0.50 MB/s, sometimes as low as 50 KB/s.

Yeah the appmanifest file isn't inside the 59GB folder so easy to miss. It's a different file for each game (GTAV having a id of 271590). It's basically just a text file saying where the files are, whether they need updating, are they beta or encrypted etc.

So when you do a resume of the download via Rock Star, is it normal for the client to take a while and for it to say continuously 'Loading'.... 'Loading'?

I’m guessing it's verifying what files I’ve got.

---

Almost 10 mins later, still says... Loading. :(

17mins later, still says loading......

Seriously guys, posting links to torrent sites? You know that's not on. Do it again and it's a lengthy ban.

Sorry! I just assumed because it was an official torrent, solely for the preloaders who bought gta, that it would be ok. But as someone posted above, it makes sense to ban all torrents.

When i download the first file i get an adware warning from Avira?

Weird! I didn't get anything and no one has reported anything bad about it due to it being a proper release. :(
