From what I can see around the net the fan revving/pulsing issue is with all Zotac 1070/80 AMP Extreme's.

If you have a loud case you probably won't hear them, but basically I am finding anything below 33% fan speed, the fan cannot stay at a constant speed.

Zotac have acknowledged the problem to some guy on facebook.

Shame really, because otherwise it is a great product. I do not get 2100MHz like MarkeR out of the box, but I can get it by upping the GPU Clock. Whacked 500MHz on my memory also and it was no problem.
Unbelievable, the reason why I didn't wait for it and went to Palit.

Same issue they had with 980Ti (had one myself, sent it back), they just didn't care then and don't care now...
It's a shame because the card should sit around that 33% most of the time given the huge cooler - I would've picked it if I hadn't been afraid of this yet again.

Wow.....I was gonna get the Zotac as well

I was but after looking at my case and the specs of the Zotac, there's no way that big boy will fit in. So now I'm torn between the Gigabyte 1070 G1 gaming. The Msi gaming X and the Msi Armor. Any thoughts on any of these 3 cards folks? The gaming X I can get elsewhere for 429. Thanks for any Advice guys

It's not looking good for me, I've lost the lottery twice with 2 GTX 1070's.
With the OC Gaming X BIOS (1607 base) I have a max of +50mhz core.
It hovers around 2000mhz in BF4 Test Range.
+50mhz might not be 100% stable, since BF4 crashed it after 35 minutes of +55mhz. Lasted a couple hours at +50mhz though.

Apparently BF4 isn't good for testing memory, I got up to +550 before artifacts appeared, and since testing it in Unigine Valley I'm at +450 and crashing and still lowering...
BF4 is definitely a better core stresser than Heaven, Valley, FireStrike though.

Both my 1070's boosted to nearly 2000mhz and on both I can't even add 50mhz or much more...
It was hitting 1999mhz boost stock clocks, and adding +50mhz it's still at 2000-2012, rarely bumps to 2025. It's like it's saying it knows +50 isn't going to work so it won't even bother going +50mhz higher in anything.

The memory on my Gigabyte card hit +500-550 stable. This card has bad memory, maybe I'll be able to stay at 8500mhz with it at least...

Nearly everything I own for my PC is broken or underperforms in some way.
My G502 right click just broke yesterday, it came with a loose scroll wheel.
I've done 2 RMA's in the past month. My Corsair case arrived with sound dampening foam falling off. EVGA PSU DOA fan. Mobo randomly died last Christmas.

It's seriously blowing my mind, I'd be like the only 1 star review for all these products. Noctua is the only company I have any faith in, I've bought 5 products from them and they're all flawless.

I'll post FireStrike scores and GPU-Z stuff when I settle on whatever garbage memory OC I can accomplish, this is going to score less than my last 1070.
At least the fans work on this one...

Maybe MSI are binning chips which is why the Gaming X card seems to be able to do over 2000mhz no problems? Either that or you are just unlucky on the silicon lottery :( I guess though there must be more difference between the Gaming and Gaming X than just the lack of RGB? It seems like the difference between our cards is 50mhz boost.

TBH 2000mhz is still plenty, the extra FPS above is just 1 or 2, not enough to really make any difference?

I had an EVGA Founders card before this which is wasn't happy with the noise from and the lower boost clocks because of the lesser cooler. It seems like you like the overclocking so maybe spend a few more dollars and pick up something like the Palit Gamerock Premium, Gainward GLH, Zotac AMP Extreme, which should all give really nice overclocks?

MSI Gaming X is a great card for £429, thats what I paid for mine and I've been thoroughly impressed. Its very quiet and overclocks well over 2ghz no sweat :) The armour is very similar but seems to boost around 100mhz less from what I have read. No experience of the G1 Gaming but seems to be decent as well.

I just got the " KFA2 GeForce GTX 1070 EX OC 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card" Delivered today ,

the 2 fans spin at 50% Defort ,no 0db at desktop IDLE ,XtremeTuner Plus for 10 series not supplied on CD ,
Doing a google search for the latest ver of "XtremeTuner Plus" that supports the 10 series kf2/Galax was not easy ,
many links show to old vers that don't support 10 series , i found one link at the end (XtremeTuner Plus(v1.1.6_20160706) that supports the 10 series ,
Bad news is the software will not allow me to program or set a fan speed ,Even in settings Advanced fan control window ,
setting it to Custom mode /the low fan setting is Temp loW 55c , fan %15 , don't work ,
Gaming: Playing black desert online : Very bad coil whine , Like having a microwave going but more deeper pitch , Whine coming from the back of card where the PCI-E Connecters plug in
Changing the "Geforce GTX " Color on side of card goes back to Defort Color when you turn off/restart PC.

GPU-Z also says 50% fan
Link for the 10 series KFA2: http://www.galax.com/en/xtreme-tuner-plus

UPDATE
The fans still silent even spinning at 50% desktop idle & playing Games they still spin very low & near silent & more silent the my 980 ti under load
also the in case temps have come down by 9c on my CPU temps as the card got much less watts than a 980 ti.
More smoother game-play also.
The (XtremeTuner Plus(v1.1.6_20160706) that supports the 10 series of KFA2 & Being this app just been rel by looks of it on 06/07/2016 ,Need more work on it , some parts don't work in the software.

Welcome and on TROH.:)

Thanks Daaaveee, yep for 429 I'm definitely interested. I just read the Armor has no backplate so that ones out. Anybody recommend the Gigabyte G1? Thanks for your advice again mate

Yeah, it is a shame, because apart from this, the card is very nice. I have contacted Zotac, let us see how long they take to respond and what they say.

The FireStorm software could be better though. I can't seem to save the fan curve. When I close the app or restart computer it goes back to default. Also, it should be 5c/5% increments at least, or even better 1, not 10!

MSI afterburner is just much better. May have to eventually use that.

Not sure why you are stressing over it so much dude. The extra performance you are talking about will net like 5-7.5% more performance? Whoop-de-doo... Overclocking is not guaranteed, it is silicon lottery.

i have just spent some time seeing how far i can push this zotac extreme.

it boosts to 2037 out of box, but i can add 200mhz to the core giving 2126 in heaven

i can also get 700mhz extra on the ram 9608mhz

all the time fans are on auto and temps never go above 65c , also power seems to hover around 70% with the occasional blip to 74/75

if i go above 200 on the core it starts to artefact and if the same with mem at 750

so is this it for my oc ? i never touched voltages, but would it make and difference if it isn't using 100% power already ?

Start the up in admin mode just once and it retains all the settings after that!

I have to give it 215+ to get to 2126MHz when in Doom. Not tried above 550Mem yet myself.

Can you do me a favour and open gpu-z, run your fan on manual to say 20% or 25% from FireStrike, basically anything below 30% and let me know whether it stays on constantly or does it turn on and off.

Yup, fan is all over the place, from 0 to 1200 rpm.

Not really a problem is it though, as the fans kick in at 50c and go over the 30% mark anyway!

It is a problem for me, as I keep hearing the fans turning on and off constantly until 33% is reached. By the way, even on 31% it runs, but eventually turns off again. Hence I stick with the 33%.

Where Zotac messed up is, at the very least they should tell fans not to bother to try and turn on until 33% is reached. Instead they try and turn on much much earlier and until the heat reaches the 60s the fan curve they have will not reach 33% for the fan to come on and stay on. Even then I have had situations where the fan kicks in, cools the card, then it goes back to revving again...

Problem is, the damn heatsink is so big and good, it take time when fans are off for the heat to even reach 60s, meaning I am left listing to the fans turning on and off for a few minutes or more depending on the game load. Not cool! :(

If they fix this problem, this is easily the best built graphics card I have ever had.

Start the up in admin mode just once and it retains all the settings after that!

I did run it as admin, but no luck. On Windows 10 64bit clean install. Will try again now.

same here fans set at 25% but in gpuz they are anything from 0 to 1012rpm

Thanks for testing man. As I thought, this is an issue with all AMP Extreme cards.

The thing is, I think you guys who do not notice it much have case fans set rather high. Most my fans are 200mm and running low speed so I can even hear the card when at 33%. Not that 33% is noisy, it is very quiet relative to what my R9 290 would run at full load. Where as this card seems to be happy to run games perfectly fine not needing to go above 33% anyway, as the heat sink is so beefy :D
