Just ordered the Inno3d 1070 from OCuk. Feel proper dirty doing this considering Nvidia cards are so ridiculously overpriced at the moment but with no AMD competition on the horizon and my current card dead the itch had to be scratched. 144hz 1440p gaming here I come!

Quick question....
Running a Palit GTX Dual 1070 here. Should the fans drop to zero ?
The min speed they ever get to is 1000rpm.
Do I need to use the thundermaster utility to manually override the fan settings, or should it do it out of the box ?
*EDIT* Just installed the thundermaster utility - the minimum fan setting appears to be 32% which is about 1000 rpm - hmmm ?
Despite it saying it supports "0-dB TECH" in the product specs the as shipped firmware "appears" to be lacking any functionality for it :|
EDIT: Have to say I'm a little sceptical about it anyhow - while it is not a bad cooler but with them having made it to fit a dual slot design there just isn't enough heatsink there being mostly if not entirely aluminium to really keep it below 50C even at idle IMO without atleast having to kick the fans in periodically. My 780GHz "could" do it but that is a huge chunk of copper.

But, man, what a tough time I had getting it working. I had an earlier version of windows 10 and the drivers wouldn't install on that version. So I had to update to the latest. When I did that update, it would install the drivers but crash constantly after installing. The computer would work fine on integrated graphics or with my old 290, but as soon as I installed the 1070 the computer would start freezing. Ran DDU between installs and all of that.
So, I had to reinstall windows 10 from scratch, not knowing if it would work or not. But, it seems to be working ok now, haven't had a chance to game on it yet.
Basically waste a whole day yesterday and most of today already getting it up and running.
But, hey at least I am in the club now!!

Bit the bullet and ordered a Inno3D GeForce GTX 1070 iChill Air Boss X3 as I thought the price reduction on this week only to £389 wasn't too bad. Ordered a Aqua Computer block for it as well. Will post a piccy up when it arrives next week.
Guys which 1070 should I go for out of the Evga FTW and the MSI Gaming X, I would have went with an Amp extreme from Zotac but it just wouldn't look right in my case (Air 540) I have a red and black build, I seem to be noticing a few people with a lot of coil whine on the Evga's though.
I like the Evga with the sideplate with the RGB Light it looks "Classier" than the more aggressive looking MSI card, But I like both.

I have a GTX 1070 on order but have been put off a bit by some of the potential issues I've read about recently. Admittedly, I haven't followed any other GPU releases over the last few years so perhaps people complain every time new GPUs are released.
Some of the issues reported by several different people: Stuttering in older games at high framerates such as CS:GO, microstutters in a lot of newer games, in a dual screen setup (1x >60Hz, 1x 60Hz) the second screen stutters i.e. while gaming on one screen and watching a video on another.

Not had any micro stutters in arma3 which is fairly old engine wise. I also have a 2nd screen and will often watch video / YouTube while in game and not active.

Not much really makes use of PhysX these days enough to make it worth having a dedicated card and I've not seen anything that would benefit from anything more powerful than a lower end 600 series card or something energy efficient of similar performance.
Wanting to go for the Palit jetstream/superjetstream 1070 which will be a stretch for my budget as it is. The issue is I my power supply only has 2x6pin power connectors. Is an adapter a viable option as could do without buying a new psu. Current psu is a G7 power extreme 780 if that helps.
My Gamerock Premium was supplied with a 2 x 6pin to 1 x 8 pin adapter lead. I suspect the Jetreams would have the same lead supplied.

My Time Spy bench run was with an old Corsair 450watt PSU with a 6 to 8 pin adapter cable in the only 6 pin on the PSU!...worked great on my Super Jetstream
