The Pascal GTX 1070 Owners Thread

Compared to other GPUs I have/had the 1070 is running quite close to the power limit much of the time which seems to cause some clock degradation.

I don't know really. I just tested this. Fired up heaven looping and my amp extreme goes to 2037mhz straight away then to 2025, then settles down to 2012mhz. It will probably go to 2000mhz eventually.

Max reading for TDP and voltage in gpuz however is only 68.1% with 1.0620v on the volts.TDP mostly around the 60-65% mark. Temps settle to ~60 degrees whilst looping.

I think it just how they work ( this is all at stock/out of the box by the way)

The boost is very variable on what is going on. For example playing Arkham Knight with vsync on at 60fps it never boosts. Just stays at the base clock of 1632 MHz because gpu usage is only around 50% most of the time.

Mine boosts to max values regardless of GPU usage but always drops clocks at 50, 60 and 66c, so whereas my max stable clock is 2114, I only get 2076 at 66c. Doesn't seem like I'm close to TDP limit at 50-60% usage but I might be wrong.

Looks like unnecessarily aggressive thermal throttling to me but some people say that certain cards don't do this.

Absolutely. Any two 1070s will work fine together in SLI, although I'm not certain what dictates which base clock is used in SLI, i.e. whether the faster card automatically syncs to the slower one's base clock or whether the top card dictates it. Obviously not a problem if the second card has reference clocks anyway.

Thanks, I thought that was the case, but just wanted to be sure. Both are at reference clocks. A friend of a friend has offered me a founders edition 1070 for a very good price. And I purchased the Palit one that was on offer a few days ago. Tempted to go SLI.

Apparently my Gigabyte Gaming can do some pretty funky things....

.... if that's your thing :)

So it is only the triple fan/Xtreme Edition version, not the Founders Edition. :/

Tempting to go for one of the Gigabyte's due to the 4 years warranty but I really like the stock blower designs. Though, the Inno3D
GeForce GTX 1070 iChill Air Boss X4 looks bad ass.

Anyone on the Inno 3D Ichill air boss x4?
My brother is looking at this card, what the Inno cards like? Warranty I see is 3 years but I think their based in the Far East? So it could be a long turnaround if the card was to become faulty under warranty.
Thanks for any advice on this card

Is anyone successfully running a Palit 1070 Super Jetstream using the display port on a 1440P 144Hz monitor? I have read about quite a few issues with the Palit cards and the display port not functioning. I am currently running a 1080P monitor and I am concerned that when I upgrade to a 1440P monitor I could run in to problems. Any user experiences on this would be great!

I'm running the Palit Dual Fan 1070 with a Dell G-Sync monitor at 144Hz over display port, no issues here. I think this has the same board s the one you're asking about but a slightly less good cooler.

But works fine over DP.

Edit: @ 1440p

Glad to hear you are having no trouble. Mine is arriving Tuesday, getting slightly nervous after reading the forums lately :)

Having no trouble via displayport for 1440p/60hz on Dell UH2515 with Palit Gamerock 1070 Premium. If the displayport was dodgy you'd imagine if would affect more than just refresh rate, no?

I had to update the bois on one of my Gigabyte Z97 boards for my 1070 to function correctly (nvidia driver issues). Oddly my older Z87X board ran it OK on a 2014 bois. First time I've ever encountered a gpu issue relating to a bois.

What kind of issues were you experiencing? I have a Z77 board and I think it is running ok. I experienced a few bsods when benching but I found that my 4.6GHz overclock on my 2500K had become unstable and I have had to back it off to 4.3GHz.

Card would run OK but had a bit of a, faff getting nvidia drivers to work correctly upon first install. Several cleans etc (benching and few games but noticed issues within 20 mins ) but random lock ups and Nvidia driver not responding (tried various driver revisions same thing). Popped card in Z87X mobo and all OK. Updated Z97 mobo and all OK. Most odd but updating bois to Z97 latest cured issues (ran a 980 prior and no issues with drivers or any bois) edit :also system was a 4790k at stock.on the Z97.
