The Polaris RX 480 Owners Thread.

Was playing bf4 last night and kept getting cpu spikes in game. Gfx settings at ultra, but when I put vsync on it seemed to settle things down a bit.

Hopefully the frostbite engine is a little less intense as I currently don't have the budget to change to intel just yet.

Changing cards has really shown how weak the 8350 really is, in bf4 and also bwnchmarks

Well, I buckled and got 2 MSI RX480 Gaming Xs. The rest of my upgrades don't get here until Thursday (in sig) and I see little point running this with a PhenomII 940, haha!

Never run Crossfire before, always wanted to try it. I'm sure I'm in for a nightmare.

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your RX 480.

Uninstall old drivers

Run DDU

Uninstall old card

Install new cards

Install new drivers

Disable ULPS using MSI Afterburner

Play Game.

This will be going on a clean instal with a new SSD , which reminds me I need to buy a new win10 code, pfft. Cheers for the ULPS tip, I wouldn't have thought about that, I do love my power saving features, I hope they fix that at some point :D

Should be a great setup in Crossfire supported games.

That said I'm always confused why people watercool a 95W CPU, then run far hotter GPU's (150W+) on air, it should be the other way around :p

Ha! Yeah, if they standardised the GFX PCB layout so water blocks could be reused on coming generations a lot more people would be interested but the price of water blocks is pretty restrictive IMO. I'm happy with a card that is silent in 2D and almost silent in intensive gaming, which is where we are at now. I'm not really fussed about the temps, only in relation to the noise they spit out.

I will probably invest in some of the Corsair Maglev fans when I have this system put together but I'll deal with that next year :D

I'm currently running an FX-8350 and 7970 but am toying with the idea of moving the 7970 to my HTPC and upgrading to a 480. I do game on the HTPC and it'd be replacing a 5850.

After reading this thread I'm feeling it'd be a waste of money. Tbh, I'm not likely to change the CPU or motherboard anytime soon.

The rx480 and fx-8350 seem to work well in this video...

On BF1 at high I get no frame drops at all and super smooth over 60 fps all the time. However when I go ultra I get frame drops below 60 quite a lot. I know the card can handle it (480 4gb) so is it my CPU (4460) or my 8GB of RAM? Using DX12 and 1080p.

Could be the 4gb 480, textures are extremely detailed in that game from what I hear

Friend just sent me some pics of his XFX RX480 mining rig (he noted that his boxes didn't have GTR written on them).

Temps look great and around the numbers JayTwoCents was stating.

Thinking of doing a CF 480 4GB build.
Saw on a review ( must find link) , no difference in frame rate between 4GB and 8GB on current CF support games. Surprised me as well with stock speeds, 1 frame difference .
