Hey guys,

Anyone else getting random blue screens? It's driving me nuts. The card i have is either a bad one or i'm clearly missing something. Currently got a 10 minute ban on overwatch because it blue screened this time with TDR_VIDEO_FAILURE.

Im currently running 16.10.1 and everything on default. Every time it blue screens i get the wattman notification that its failed and it's putting it back to default. Then other times i can play a game and the memory wont boost, so i have to restart the whole PC. I can open up Wattman and the memory will be stuck at 300mhz. Restart and its running back on 2100mhz.

Any advice would be awesome. I'm currently updating to 16.10.2 and will test. I wouldn't mind if was overclocking but i can't even get that far now haha. Anyone help before i return and put towards a 1070 or something.

Cheers.

Have you tried clearing old registries and drivers with DDU ?

With windows 7 and newer graphics related BSOD's should be a thing of the past now replaced with simple driver crashes, so the blue screens are odd unless you on vista or older.

But regardless GPU driver crashes are usually as a result of current voltage been inadequate for stable usage at current clocks.

If the card is overclocked, ease off the overclock, if its stock config, then I would RMA it.

Yeah, i think i will organise an RMA. There is no clock on the card at all. I have even started getting some weird graphical issues now, even on POST the screen goes all 'liney' and all different colours.

Am i right in thinking OCUK do all RMA issues now?

Interesting, will have to give this a go. Wonder if it is a bug as turning down to high doesn't fix on dx12.

I could play OK on high on DX12, just not ultra. I'm going to wait a week or 2, update drivers and try DX12 again. DX11 ultra is looking amazing anyway!

Have you used DDU to completely remove drivers and reinstall? the TDR error you get is more common with Nvidia cards than AMD. Did you have an Nvidia card installed before the 480's by any chance. Could be remnants of old drivers.

Not on the post screen it ain't drivers.

RMA for being plagued with black screening 290's, last a 290X plat.

None so far with this!

My Sapphire Nitro+ OC 8GB arrived today.

As it's a Christmas present I've been told that I'm not allowed to even look at the box until then. At least she let me have the Haribo though :D

Don't you think I've tried!!! :(

She ended up letting me open the bag to check it was the right card, which it is. However, the box is wrapped in bubble wrap with OcUK branded packing tape so no chance of me even sneaking it open to test and repackage it, haha.

LMAO, harsh!

Been there before though!

How good are OcUK for warranty returns? lol

You'll get an instant brand new replacement straight from OCUK if the card is found to be faulty within a 30 day period from the purchase date.

If you discover it's faulty after the 30 days, it will then be sent back to the manufacturer for repair/replacement. You might get a refurbished card back that has been scratched, dented etc but has been repaired to full working order. This process can take upto a month.

Please note I'm speaking out of experience here, I RMA's a faulty MSI GPU that was in pristine condition and had been looked after etc (no scratches, or wear marks, no dust etc). Two weeks later I received my replacement - a refurbished GPU that had a scratched up backplate, moderate dust throughout the heatsink and a strange odour. It did work perfectly fine though.

I'd highly recommend convincing your partner to let you test the card. 15 minutes of 3DMark Firestrike should let you know if the card is faulty or not, then wrap it all back up and put it under the tree!

Thing is though you'll open it on Xmas day and find its faulty and obviously everywhere is shut and no chance of contacting anyone for days and then its probably a limited service and normal refund/RMA won't be available until the New Year and you'll be franticly ringing up everywhere trying to find somewhere open that can at least sell you a cheap piece of overpriced crap just to get you started lol.

Blackjack, not quite the drama. I'd just go back to my 7970 :p

Anyway, it works...

IMG_20161025_185132_zpssxu5mx9b.jpg

TROH please ;) (edited typo... too much excitement)

Runs cooler and quieter than my 7970 in Firestrike while getting almost double the frame rate. Looped it for 30 minutes and no issues, I think that's as good as it's going to get, haha.

8918 on the 480 vs 7216 on the 7970. Is that good? lol
