My MSI Aero AC 1070 comes with Samsung memory.

It automatically boost's to 1911mhz core, that a good clock or?

Im underwater, so not sure what my limits are on memory and core.

In regards to the claims that no 2nd pci-e power connector is needed.

I played project cars for the first time on my 1070, now with the same settings I used on my 970 its almost double performance which is really nice.

I then enabled D4X mode whilst on 1440p which did saturate the card as that is more than 4k rendering, with the card at 99% utilisation, the card had to throttle down from 2076mhz to 1963mhz with all cars on screen, it then settled around 2010-2030mhz most of the rest of the race. With TDP pinned at maximum. Even on the more sane settings of AA on high no downsampling, the utilisation of the GPU was hovering around 50-70% which at first glance would suggest its not breaking a sweat but TDP was 85-105%.

If a bios editor ever does get made I would probably bump my TDP limit by 20 watts which I hope would be enough to keep it at 2076 under max utilisation, I am not really interested in higher clocks then that but would be nice to be able to not have TDP throttling.

The lower resolution the lower the workload on your GPU. CPU workload doesn't change much with resolution.

So as you drop your resolution you're more likely to be CPU limited.

Wow EVGA messed up on the 970 release also, seems excessive cost cutting.

Some may remember they launched a new SSC and FTW+ card for the 970 after the original coolers had bad reviews, and also ended up shipping out free backplates for the customers to fit when all their competitors had prefitted backplates. I was one of those customers who got a free backplate and fitted it.

It's a really silly claim. I definitely recommend the person overclock their CPU if at all possible just because you can and it's cheap, but to say that a 3.9Ghz Haswell i7 is 'too slow' for 1080p is absolutely laughable nonsense.

Why don't you provide some evidence to prove what you are saying.

Have to agree with Kaap here, a 3.9Ghz Haswell is rather long in the tooth to extract the maximum performance out of a 1070/1080.

Overclock it to at least 4.3Ghz for much better performance, or upgrade to Skylake/Broadwell-E.

Anyone put their FE under water? Was it worth it?

I'm not expecting miricles but since I 'crypto mine' with my 1070 when im not using it, having the fan at 90% to keep the card cool (66 degrees) i'm tempted to expand my EK predator with the GPU block too but for roughly £100 it's a fairly big layout.
