I downloaded a 4k sample and its stuttering.

Here is my set up,4tb NAD which goes to my amazon fire not 4k box and is played via kodi on my 50" lg plasma.

Have tried 3 files and all stutter.

Any ideas ?

the 4k sample probably uses the hevc/h265 codec and that needs a hardware decoder as built into 4K tvs, nvidia shield/ android 4k box, to decode it without stuttering.
I guess your PC either has graphics hardware or sufficiently powerful cpu
(xbox one s could not handle it and even amazon 4k fire tv cannot do >30fps)

Right, thanks for that jpaul, what would I look at getting to handle 4k ?

Would a amazon fire 4k box be OK or not ?

I think the answer is no (am looking for something for 4k playing too)
if a limited 4K decode of videos at max 30hz/fps is adequate then probably ok, but if you want something that will do utube 60hz files, no.
see here and here
if the new roku 4k ultra arrives this maybe good, otherwise it is 4k android box from china, or nvidia shield ($$)

EDIT: Ok the zoomtek box themul referenced is fulfilled by Amazon - so not too much risk - maybe I would consider that ... I really want netflix 4k/1080p as well though

Even if the final result looks slightly better, it's not worth the hassle of going out and buying a dedicated 4k player surely?

It won't look *that* much better in my opinion compared with a good 1080p file of the same thing.
