The Polaris RX 480 Owners Thread.

Guys with nitros seling second hand for around £150 would it be a daft idea to buy a second and xfire?

For Xmas the wife is buying me an ultrawide so there will be a little bit more stress on the gpu even at 1080 still.

I want to upgrade CPU but currently only play bf1 so will plan on updating when the next big launch of battlefield i think. At £150 would it be a bit of a bargain upgrade?

My upgrades are always value for money so probably go AMD again. I have read that 480 in xfire is close to a 1080 which in theory should still be able to play games at fairly high settings even in 3-4 years time.

Finally a proud owner of this beauty!

Looking back through this thread and re quoting for the lols

What do you have your RX480s running at, people? trying That undervolting stuff, is it the Stage 6-7 that needs adjusting or al of them? Screens would be helpful :D

Nitro +OC at stock (1342mhz) is 1120 down from 1150
It can do 1300 mhz at 1060

With power limit set to at least +30% it can maintain boost so I adjust stage 7 to what I want its max to be then adjust the rest down to balance out the "curve"

Got a link to that Nitro dude? :D

Do you do Wattman or Afterburner? Anyway, I noticed mine boosts to 1288 under load, a quick OC to 1350 sorted it, now just wondering why, cause I ordered GTR Black and I got a GTR Black, why did it boost to XXX speeds?

Any chance a mistake happened at the factory and they packed a XXX inside a GTR box? :D Is there a difference in components or is it just the clockspeed?

So I tried playing with MSI AB a bit, got to 1400 at 1.156 stable-ish, didn't crash 3 runs of Valley back to back, think I'll keep her at 1360 at 1.120 or was it 1.108 stable, can't recall. What do you recommend for cpu stability, Cinebench?

I use Wattman as in afterburner you can only control the stage 7 voltage and its an offset value.

If you got a great chip in your GTR it'll go to those speeds - no idea on the differences between those models.

I found heaven quite poor for testing stability and I think that is supposed to be more stressful than valley. I used firestrike but even then I had to up the volts in actual games (Witcher 3 and anything using frostbite)

For CPU i used prime 95 to get a stable 4.4 ghz profile and then switched to asus realbench to get 4.5 ghz

Another vote for Asus realbench for CPU testing. It's the one i find best. With graphics card i almost feel like games are the best stability test these days.

True that. 6 hours of CoD:AW at 1360 with 1.125v, completely stable, ran mid-high settings, only reached 83'C for a few minutes, rest of the game it hovered around 76'C max, custom fan curve. Me quite happy with the purchase :D Will have a play with Realbench tonight maybe, Cinebench bugs out if I put 4.6 at 1.42v, might it be the chip ain't a good OCer? Sorry for a bit of CPU in graphics section :)

I'd probably want to try a slightly more modern game but 1360 at those volts is very good.

I have a 4670k so can't say how good your CPU is I'm afraid. I'd be pleased if I could get 4.6 from my chip without cooking myself with the heat

can i be added please? XFX GTR BE

what software are people using to oc? i am using trixx atm. also what overclocks are people getting? on the stock bios i have managed to get to 1500/2250 in firestrike, but u have to drop it down a bit for extreme and ultra. i think 1450-1475 would be doable for daily usage on my card, but i havent tested it too much yet.

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/16211574 as far as i can tell my card is one of the fastest air cooled cards but i think with a better bios and some more voltage i will be able to go higher.
