The Polaris RX 480 Owners Thread.

Have you used DDU to completely remove drivers and reinstall? the TDR error you get is more common with Nvidia cards than AMD. Did you have an Nvidia card installed before the 480's by any chance. Could be remnants of old drivers.

Unfortunately not. This is a brand new system and first GPU it has had in it. I'm getting all kinds of weird issues with this card. Since putting it in, my PC doesn't turn off either  I click shutdown and monitor etc goes off but LEDs, GPU and water pumps stay on. very much baffled.

Lines/corruption on the post screen can be the motherboard bios not supporting the card properly. A bios update could help.

Good call, i will try to do this tonight. I'll let you know how i get on. I really don't want to RMA the card though if i don't have too. I'll have to drain the loop :(

Just got my rx 480 strix OC and im not that impressed tbh. the card can get loud even in a well ventilated case. That said ive barely tested it so maybe there is something for me to do about this issue. Also i am a tad dissappointed that i only get 10% higher score in time spy vs my old r9 290 though that was running at 1050 core clock. But besides that its well built piece of hardware and the pulsing light looks sweet.

Performance in BF1 is solid and im able to max out my 75hz 1080p monitor with everything set to ultra on a 64p server with the exception of Ambient occlusion which ive turned off because i hate that effect.

Hi guys

Not sure if this is the place for this... But is the Radeon RX 480 Nitro+ OC 8192MB the 480 to get at the moment?

Thanks

Personally, No... while it has some nice features and looks stunning, personally i would get the hideous looking HIS card or the top end XFX one if you want sheer performance and decent cooling.

Ive read a lot of mixed reviews of the Nitro and it seems its fairly loud out of the box.

So i think if i was buying a 480 right now i'd go for the HIS or the XFX GTR XXX Black or whatever its called.

The XFX GTR would be my choice at the moment if i was going top of the line. If i was going budget, the 4GB Nitro+ remains a good choice IMO

The XFX GTR RX480 has got everyone talking as it looks like XFX are using binned chips for the card which have better thermals, use a lot less power and overclock like a boss. It's not cheap but with the overclocks some folk have been getting it's decent value (if you overlock).

I cut the voltage on my XFX GTR XXX down to 1050mv from 1137mv, which is a huge drop. That also opens up a lot more headroom for OCing.

Runs noticeably cooler on stock clocks now. AMD drivers must be over volting them a lot by default!

Thanks for the replies guys. Does this remain the top choice if crossfire might be an option in the future? Or is it really necessary to opt for a blower design?

Cheers again

unless your case ventilation is dreadful i would never ever choose the blower reference design. The GTR would still be the better choice i believe.

Hmm seems like ive missed the bug with wattman lowering the target temp to 65 degrees.. manually changed that to 75-80 degrees and my strix is a lot less noisy now.. silly bug tbh :P
