what software are people using to oc? i am using trixx atm. also what overclocks are people getting? on the stock bios i have managed to get to 1500/2250 in firestrike, but u have to drop it down a bit for extreme and ultra. i think 1450-1475 would be doable for daily usage on my card, but i havent tested it too much yet.

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/16211574 as far as i can tell my card is one of the fastest air cooled cards but i think with a better bios and some more voltage i will be able to go higher.

what temps are you getting? im really kicking myself for not getting the XFX gtr right now as the asus i have is a ****. Its heating up like crazy, i have to underclock to reference 1266 speeds and undervolt with like -20ish mw to have it maintain a 74-75 degree max load temp unless i want the noise of a jet engine.

getting 70 or so but that is playing witcher 3 not furmark. XFX GTR XXX 8GB. stock settings no oc.

If I lower voltage to 800mv that means I still get the same gaming power, or less (and run cooler)

i have no idea tbh i havent really looked. i think it was getting to about 72c on +150mv with the stock fan profile on test bench. i'm not running it in a case. with the fans on 100% it hardly getting over 60c. also i thought the strix had one of the best coolers? maybe the airflow in your case is too low and its recycling it own air?

does anyone know the asic of their card? mine is only 68.7% so it should be one of the slower ones.

airflow is fine. my old 1070 did 67 during gaming while boosting to 2k on stock fan profile and wasnt even audible over the other fans. This strix is however. Its ffing loud to be frank. I think i just lost the silicon lottery and as a result heat output from the chip is a lot more than what people see on the GTR editions from XFX or MSI. Its dissappointing really, expected more from a premium product like the strix. Btw the temp stays almost the same with the case side off.

That is strange. I thought the strix cooler was good from the reviews I read. If you get chance to swap it I can highly recommend the gtr. At stock it barely spins the fans at all and only gets about 64-65c under full load on mine.

Mine had a bad fan curve, adjusted with ABurner. Used to go up to 85 in a few minutes, apparently XFX decided 25% fan speed is enough :D Might try for 1500 MHz, don't want to go above 1.200v though. Firestrike or Valley, which one's better?

guys with a Nitro OC.

how hot/loud does it get?

I have a nitro+ OC

If you keep it fed with fresh air its between 70 - 80 depending on game and load and its not too loud even with an extra overclock

With poor air flow it doesn't do so well and either has to be underclocked and undervolted or run very loud

I know this because i recently changed the front fan in my dead silence case from standard to a bitfenix spectre pro and the difference is amazing

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your RX 480.

I think firestrike is better, it gives a more realistic score than Valley as I was getting way lower scores with the right 480 than a gtx 780 in Valley even at 1490mhz. The gpu score is the main one to watch in firestrike, the overall score is affected by the cpu a lot.

Thanks man, I have a NZXT H440 which I think are regarded as being poor airflow?

its just that a regular Nitro 8GB (not-OC) can be found for £210 today.... wanted to know if it was worth it for me, or to just buy the XFX. Despite liking the look of the Sapphire more.

Have you considered the msi gaming x. It's got 20% cash back on it today. But the xfx is great.

If you can feel noticeable air with your hand at the front of where your graphics card is (where the power goes) you should be fine

The nitros chuck hot air out that way as well and if its got nowhere to go they get very warm very quickly

I just got my MSI, 20% rebate + Civ VI + BF1 deluxe expansion :D

Yep i went for the same deal. don't normally like rebates, but this was too good to pass up.

will be interesting how the msi cards overclock. seems most people are under clocking/undervolting on most cards. The MSI cards are suppose to be up with the xfx gtr, but then again i have heard the strix.

i am almost tempted to buy one for CF tbh

Valley is good for a quick stability test while you try and tune in on your maximum OC. The score system however i could not care less about. Games though is where the final stress test should be.

Just doing a f@h work unit on my card for the first time. It's very good compared to the 970, running cooler, lower fan speed and uses less power, all while getting higher ppd.
