Opterons 165 & 170 < - Gibbo

ok, had a look around the xs fourm as there are many ppl's with the 0550 170. it looks like batch 408 is the one to have, a lot of people are seeing 2.7ghz on stock volts. I'm still farting around with ram, so I cant push mine yet :(

Ah your still finding the limit of the cpu then, well anyway I would be most interested to find out how well both clock together. my hz's are well fickle, they max out around the same as yours, still think there is more in them but I'm not sure now

I got my Opty 170 straight in at 2.7Ghz @1.42v ( this is what my mobo was set to before so can no doubt reduce this and up the clock a little to see how far I can go)

Just d/l SuperPi to check an 8Mb silumtaneous run on both cores is ok and then I will start playing with Prime tomorrow

cpu-z is actually saying v=1.392

Have to also fiddle with multi as my memory is only at 198Mhz or so

Just got my opty 170 (CCBWE 0550UPMW) from OCUK today.

Just about to put it in and have a play

Hesky not sure where the batch number is but here is whats on the top:

OSA170DAA6D
CCBWE 0550UPMW
1387408L50748

Hope this helps

any results yet frank?? mines identical but has a lower batch number, would be interesting to see how well yours oc's

I am slowly burning in at 2.75GHz ( this is where I started as my opty 144 was at these settings also. cpu-z says 2.75, amd AMD PowerMon says 2.8)

I have stock heatsink fan on at the moment, so I am sure with a zalman or something I should hit 2.9 with ease, wih judicial playing of the voltage also ( about 1.39v at the mo)

Now testing 280*10 at same voltage which certainly loads windows ok

Ram is at 5/6 at the moment (233Mhz) I tried 9/10 (252Mhz) and it didnt even start loading windows - maybe if I try slots 1/2 instead of presently3/4 I will get slightly better performance

edit - blast it wont even run 3dmark 06 at these settings - 3dmark just bombs out back to desktop

Got mine installed and going at stock settings at the moment, very impressed nearly cut my lightwave rendering time in half :)

Duel Core is definity the way forward, the programmers just need to catch up with technology for the duel core revolution to start.

Will get to overclocking very soon, just need to find the time at the moment, ahh the life of a employeed working student :D
