Sad to think, that you think, they are jealous

The fact that he replied sarcasticly only proves my point. It's not friendship, it's a clique. Otherwise why the insulting sarcasm?cyKey said:Agreed. Its a sad thing to see people jealous that some people here are friends.

He obviously feels that your comment was directed at him or his friends. It reads as if it was to me.seek said:The fact that he replied sarcasticly only proves my point. It's not friendship, it's a clique. Otherwise why the insulting sarcasm?

.....just do something, anything to make these threads/problems disappear.

Perchance it is believed that this clique is to the detriment of the forums.sphen said:Why is this clique being discussed? How does it relate back the original post?
It wouldn't, and, as I said, I wouldn't like to see this forum closed permanently, nor all the non-techies to leave (nor even most of them!).Sequoia said:And mighty was advocating the shutdown of GD. How will that give the techies a general place to hang out?
I don't know if that was what Mightynimrod was advocating, but as I pointed out it's not what I would like. It would be nice, however, if the hardware regulars were to post in GD more often, because they're the core of the community, and, as Sleepy mentioned, a lot of people who now only post in the lifestyle forums originally came for the hardware advice! Obviously there's a lot of people who only post in GD but are good members who make constructive posts, but the fact is that the majority of spam, trolling and bickering comes from GD-only posters. I hope that a temporary closure would cause precicely these kind of posters to lose interest and find some other forum to spam, but that the members who genuinely enjoy being here will come back when it's reopened.unless the argument is to get rid of all members that aren't techies altogether? Is it?
If so, I vehemently disagree. The strength of this place is diversity. It would destroy that.
Very true, GD is just too big for our mod team, and a bit of judicious RTM'ing would make it easier for them. However, see below:iCraig said:I think if people just used the RTM function properly, GD will improve.
That's the issue: a lot of things aren't specifically prohibited by the rules. I wouldn't know whether I should RTM a spam post or not, for instance. Trolling is specifically forbidden in the sticky, but so much trolling can be thinly disguised as debate that it's hard to draw a line. In general, I take the view that if I'm not personally injured by the post I shouldn't RTM it (ie. if it's not my thread being spammed, or if it's not me personally who's getting trolled, I ignore it). A lot of people, however, choose to respond to offensive or spammy posts, telling people to edit out swearwords or accusing them of trolling and starting arguments that go on for pages. I consider that pointless and it only contributes to the spamming. In the hardware sections it's common for people to post a reply giving people a friendly hint to edit out a competitor's URL from their posts, but that's simply because they genuinely don't want you to get banned simply for being new and not knowing about the competitor rules. Posting a reply to tell someone to edit out a swearword, when you could've just RTM'ed the post, is rather pointless and smells faintly of noob-bashing.Sequoia said:What it needs, in my view, is a clear understanding by all members of what is and is not allowed, and moderators to ensure that's what happens.
I really think that is unfair. What have I said in this entire thread could suggest that I was refering to iCraig?Gilly said:It reads as if it was to me.
Good. Then I'll say no more.gilly said:There is no clique. The only exclusive group on these forums is the mod team, and thats with good reason.

iCraig said:So it's ok to insult the 'clique' referring to our friendship as **** sucking, but a sarcastic reply back isn't?
seek said:And lets not turn this into an argument, if you disagree then just ignore this post.

I'd be all about a TOSAH meet. The community there is very strong.fatiain said:Meets mean that online friendships are cemented in reality and are therefore maybe a bit stronger.
