GD may close for a while

Is it? I don't see how GD has affected it. This place hasn't been 'primarily a hardware overclocking forum' for a long time in my eyes, and the import of getting as high a clock out of your processor these days is less and less important with the advent of more and more powerful machines.

I think thats more the problem than GD.

Gotta agree, I stopped overclocking along time ago and with it my use of the technical forums declined a great deal, I still loved the OcUK forum so started posting in GD.

We'll see what happens.

A point I tried to make earlier - I completely agree. I havnt regarded this place as somewhere to post about hardware in YEARS. Outside of sound city, I cant recall the last time I posted other than in Life. Its certainly a LONG time since I properly participated in a thread there, possibly 2 years!

doesnt bother me either way tbh - I don't often post in GD. Sad to see it go on the basis of the behaviour of certain members though.

But still, in that respect, nothing ever changes.

Hi, Spie. (Mark)

Well, it would be a shame to see the General Discussion go, it really would. I always come here every time I come on the Internet. However, having said that, I do understand where you're coming from, Spie. This place has got a tad out of hand over the last few months. But, why let the minority spoil it for the rest of us?

The Dons could also be tighter on their ropes with people as well. This way, it would keep things in shape. Although at the moment they do an excellent job. ;)

You're the Boss here, so what you say goes. If you feel the need the close the General Discussion. Then do it. I hope that if you do, it improves the quality of it once reopened. Also, that the bad apples don't go trolling to the rest of the forum.

I'm sure the decision you make, will be the right one. ;)

Robert.

Certainly not - i enjoy posting in GD however i feel that the forum has lost it's way from primarily a hardware overclocking forum, and if the GD is causing so many problems which eveidently it is, then something needs to be done.

It will be a great shame if we loose the things that still bring a real life/community/caring/meaning to these forums though. I work with Dead Dog and have a proper understanding of what these forums can mean to peoples lives. To lose threads (e.g Dead Dogs) that you "Mighty Nimrod" etc put the work, caring and effort into will be the biggest loss etc of the forum. I believe that most don't understand the proper meaning that the forum ca have to peoples lives. It is/was a hardware forum and you still have the Overclocking forum etc for hardware, Speakers corner for the proper indepth discusion/arguments.

For what its worth if it closed i wouldnt bother even logging into the forum.
All are the same with certain cliques of people, whos knowledge and opinion is LAW.

GD was funny and spontanious, im not sure why there is a sudden over protectiveness on OcUK.. Trying to keep its 100% sensible will mean it spills out into other forum areas.

95% of the entire froum is rubbish, people asking pointless questions aka "chicken recipies" springs to mind, and the clique guys all spouting tripe as soon as they see each others names on a post it turns into the same old nonscence in every post.

Whatever mates as long as i can access MM when i need to sell something and hardware forums when i need to buy something, I think you are shooting yourselves in the feet (yes both) eventhinking about closing it.

I never really understood the whole powertrip thing in forums, A forum is made for the people its the people that post that make the forum, even if now and then its gibberish.

That came accross wrong but, im tired and cant type straight. :D

ive never really looked at the GD forums until a couple of months ago and now i would say its my favourite forum.

Please dont close it.

Your one of the ones that knackered this place up, ive lost count of the ammount of relationship threads that you post, if its not you its someone you know needs advice

yeah, the relationship threads are mega boring but maybe thats just my own personal opinion.

i guess it comes down to an econimic decision, whether its worth OCUk's time and money to look after the forums - if they have little relevancy to the core operation of the business, the hardware.

can ocuk carry on providing the facility given its present situation?

What clique?

What clique?

the CPU guys has some chap that just says CONROE to every single question.

When is the new AMD blah blah shipping??

" IDIOT BUY CONROE BLAH BLAH BLAH" etc etc

On GD its all the same 5 people talking about ... well nothing, but they follow each other on threads as soon as one posts the others do too, its like its 1 person with 5 accounts.

Seriously imm really too tired to make sense ill end up making more spam :O contributing to the closure.

Was closed a while back to, i guess some can't take the hint. :)

I only come in here now and again now, you just get sick of the pointless threads like 'where can i buy bananas' hmm thats a toughy that one, ill have a think and get back to you. :p

Hopefully another close will make ppl think, but i doubt it. :(

Here here to the closure. :)

I think its a bloody good marketing tool really. Not everyone is computer Savvy on these forums but im sure tha many have baught hardware from OcUK because they use the forum..

It works for me OcUK is always my 1st port of call for new hardware, and sometimes i actually buy stuff lol .

'If' the general consensus among the current admin team is that there aren't enough mods that have the time to dedicate to GD as per some previous mods, then is it worth considering expanding the mod team to include more mods, that while individually have less time, but have a greater capacity as a team?

I couldn't do the job that Gilly et al performed, but I imagine there are a lot more dedicated and respected members than I that would happily click 'delete post/topic' instead of 'RTM' during their respected shorter stays on the boards?

I don't wish to appear to be seen to be begging for a donship, merely taking echoing the sentiment of respected member a while ago that has since joined the admin team.

Alternatively, greater powers for UB's?

Much of GD is pure spam. I classify it as either 'Google it spam' or 'nobody cares spam'.

Google it spam:

'How long do I cook this for?'
'What's the phone number of this company?'
'How much does this cost?'
'Where can I find a file hosting service, etc, etc?'

Nobody cares spam:

'I just farted. It stinks.'
'I don't like OcUK, whinge whinge.'
'Guess what I had for dinner?'
'My friend doesn't like me any more!'

I couldn't agree more. There's far too much **** sucking going on between the OCUK "in-crowd".

Saw this post quoted so had to track back to find the "view post" link but why do you feel that? In this thread? Generally? Who are you referring to?
