Earlier today,*we posted the first image of the back plate for the next-generation iPhone, and now we have*received*several more images that are very high-resolution. These new shots showcase a comparison between the black and white versions of the next-generation iPhone back. The black and white coloring is, of course, a trim, and a large portion of the back – as you can see – is made out of metal. We are unsure at this point what purpose this metal serves (or if it is just a stylistic addition), but the metal is*definitely*present in all of our photos of the device’s back.

Looks nice to me :) Comes with smaller dock connector, earphone jack has moved to the bottom of the phone and a different styled bottom to it. More photos at the source :)

Thoughts?

Looks decent. Would love to have the earphone jack at the bottom, didn't see the problem at first with it on top until I used an iPod touch for a while.

Any vague ETA that anyone knows of?

WWDC, or are we in for a longer wait? I'm due for an upgrade from my 4 already & am waiting for the 5 (or, I imagine, the "new" iphone... lol)

I heard it was going to be timed for about 16 months after the 4s release to tie in with the US contracts.

Also is supposed to sport a 3.8" screen but the same size phone overall.

the whites gotta be a proto, but the black ones nice

I dont mind when it comes out as i cant upgrade till october but looks good so far

theres no way it'll have a split back like that. You don't get Knighted on your contribution to design and then churn that **** out!
Theres no need for the plastic/metal split seeing as it still has the same antenna split.

Like I said. Totally horrible looking & fake.

Why would you want jack on bottom?

Because the cable doesn't then drape over your hand and most people tend to put devices top down into pockets, it's something the iPod has done for years. Only reason it's ever been on the top of the iPhone is because the bottom didn't have any space due to the 30pin + speakers, and if they're going to start using a smaller dock after 10+ years of the current design, then that frees up space. A simple adapter from 30pin to mini 30 pin would cost peanuts, and w/Airplay and iCloud you generally don't need to plug the thing in other than the charge it.

There are better pics of this 'leak' with the white case looking more silvery metallic... I need to see the design fully put together to have a stronger opinion, but I kinda like the black. Probably real as parts get leaked all the time now.

I can't believe so many people actually think thats gonna be it? I really don't think it looks like an apple product at all. Of course I could be wrong but it screams someones homemade job (and a good one) just not a apple one.

ugh I really can't stand it! They need to remove that plastic sheet off the back but just the white and aluminium is just an awful clash for a back plate.

It'll look great fully built, I'd buy one! (MHL 2.0 port please! No? :o)

(Awesome detailing if it's a fake)

I personally think it's the real deal - production is obviously beginning soon - leaks like this are pretty common.
