In Your Head...
Hi all, my weakspot when it comes to computers is graphics cards...

I have my new build,

Asus Rampage IV Extreme
Intel Core i7-3960X 3.30GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011
G.Skill RipJawsZ 32GB (8x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz
Coolermaster HAF X case
EK-KIT H3O - Supreme LT 360 water cooling kit
2 x G.Skill Turbulence II Memory Cooler

I want Nvidia

my budget for graphics is around £500
Whats the best way to spend that?

on 1 580x
on 2 570x
or on 4 560x

sorry im an idiot

The more cards, the more problems you will run into.

High end kepler cards could be a while away, if you don't mind second hand you could get 2 580s for £500 and be pretty futureproof for a while, what res do you play it? If 1080p a 580 is more than adequate on it's own right now tbh.

yeah 1080p

ive looked on ebay cant find any second hand ones,

would want them to last me 3ish years, but i suppose its unlikely even with 4 580s lol

will keep an eye for second hand ones,

now what should i look for in the specs? Sorry im a ***...

and LOL no i never got a lambo

4 card's of anything is pointless and overkill. Wait... you didn't just get a Lamborghini for your 30th?

haha, that's exactly what I thought :D

@OP Why not wait for the new Nvidia cards? If you want them to last the next 3 years, you are probably better off waiting a couple of months.

not neccessarily, getting 2 mid-high range cards can usually be had for better price/performance ratio than a single top spec card

having said that, right now is not a great time to be buying Nvidia cards if the kepler cards are only 2 months away

I would just get a single 580 as cheap as you can for now and then see what kepler brings to the party

if I were thinking of getting 2 570's right now I would want them to be 2.5gb versions, and they are rare as hens teeth and too expensive for what they are

As your running 1080p go for a 1 card setup. Less of headache and you'll save some dosh left for later. If you buy a new monitor down the line then buy the new Nvidia card at the same time. Future proofing yourself is an oxymoron when it comes to PC hardware.

If you were to upgrade your graphics card every year putting the sale of your last card towards the new one then over 3 years you would spend less and be left with a better card than if you were to just buy 4x570 or 2x580 right now.

with a £500 budget and you want nvidia id get a 2nd hand 580 now as cheap as you can, then when the new cards are out in a few months sell the 580 for minimal loss and buy a 680

To be honest, if he went for 1155 instead of 2011, he would had more money to spend on graphic card(s). I really don't see the point of 2011 over 1155 for general users/gamers. They are only beneficial to those that uses productive (i.e. encoding) or professional applications...
