Hi guys

After years of console gaming, I tried PC gaming and so what I was missing out.

My 30th is coming up soon, and my very rich girlfriend (well her mum mainly) said she will get me all the PC parts I need:

so what you guys think of this:

Rampage Extreme 4
I7 3930k
32Gb Ram 1600Mhz
Coolermaster cosmos 2
coolermaster 1200 watt psu
7990 x 2 (when they come out)
m4 ssd
revodrive 240gb
xonar d2x sound card

Would this be too much for gaming, and if so what could u do with this spec

I might be too suspicious but you claim to be new to PC gaming and that this is a planned spec but in this post/thread you say you already have most of these parts 'under your bed'

Might be an innocent explanation but does look oddly like you have just come here to boast about a PC you may or may not own or be about to get. Either way it looks very strange and I doubt very much that a girlfriend's mum would fork out several grand on a PC for their daughter's other half. I hope there's some back story I'm missing, always seems a bit tragic when people post made up stuff to impress people they won't ever meet.

Yes - massive overkill and a waste of money.

£1800 tops imo:

i7 2700k (although for pure gaming the i5 is exactly the same but whatever...)
ASrock Extreme4 Gen3 Mobo
M4 256GB SSD
7970 Sapphire
Corsair AX850
Crosair XMS3 8GB (can add more in the future should it be beneficial)
Antec 1200
WD Caviar Green 2TB
Xonar D2X
Samsung Blu Ray player
H20 620 cpu cooler
Samsung 22x DVDRW


That is a monster machine that would rip through BF3 and future games for quite some years. Then, if beneficial, you can add another 7970 for a boost.

2x 7990s is just ridiculous unless you're talking 1600p eyefinity set up in which case 7970CF will also be enough as posters have shown.

Just because they are paying doesn't mean you should go overboard lol:D


EDIT: just seen above posts - OH DEAR - I've wasted my time...excellent......

Get the I7 2600k. In gaming it's just as good as the 3930k without all the extra heat.

39xx series Sandybridge CPUs run incredibly hot. You'll need a Corsair H100 at a minimum if you want to overclock.

I guess it just depends on how much you hate your mother in law to be. If it was my old mother in law I'd have had a 3980x or whatever they're called with a nice punch in her guts to say thanks.
