Have you swapped your MSI 7950?

Hi, as many user`s know on the forum, OCUK had a bad batch of MSI twin frozr III 7950`s.
The question is what kind of temp did you have, and what kind of temps to expect from this cooler in 100% proper working order?
How much will a postage to OCUK cost?

I had artifacts and flashes at stock clocks, cost £12 to return.

Swapped for a different product

If its faulty, don't worry too much about postage to OcUK, they should refund postage costs on faulty items.

RMSD Sub 2KG = £9 something
RMSD 2KG+ = £24.50

Both do come with £500 insurance however.

I think you'd be looking in the region of 60c load temps with stock clocks. Obviously other factors come into this though.

While playing borderlands 2 i get temps 67 at 50% fan speed

Heres a screenshot of my OC at stock voltage after running heavy heaven benchmark. http://scr.hu/0u78/nsov4

Is the bad batch finished with now?

My friend also had one of these.

I only ask as another friend is upgrading soon and I'll obviously tell him to get another card/or get it elsewhere if it is.

Good thread, will keep an eye on it.

I've considering sending mine back too.

Idle temps are 34c

Load is around 73c

I'm 'OK' with those temps even though they are similar to my REF 6970 and I think a card like this should be a lot better.

Mine has developed a different problem over the course of this week which I would love some advice on:

MSI AB if I apply any overclock at all completely buggers up the gfx (artifracts, crashes). With AB uninstalled and overcloking simply with CCC (ie stock volts) I can OC to like 1050c 1400m without crashes (so far).

I've several of the 12.11 AMD drivers and both AB 2.2.5 and 2.2.3 and it happens with all.

Do you think I've just a very average chip that cannot overclock that well? TBH I bought the card for a good OC (as that's where a lot of the 7950 power is) and for good temps too. I don't really seem to be getting either?

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I ordered mine last Friday delivered on Tuesday and Gibbo said was part of the new batch. Which unfortunately doesn't seem to be much better

I got two from the most recent batch, they were bad. Very high idles and poor performance in games.

I took them back last Thursday and courtesy of the great service provided by Bailey and 5UB I walked away with 2x HIS IceQ X2 Boost editions for no extra cost (I only paid £240 each for the MSI Twin Frozrs).

The two HIS cards are great, idles are nearly half at stock, and load is about 64c.

Overclocked to 1250Mhz at 1.25v (I don't need 1.25 I just put it to that to see how it coped). I get about 75 load but with quiet fans. Overall I'm very happy.

I was getting silly good performance is Crysis 2 in some areas, but I think I'm really CPU limited with this Q6600 at 3.5Ghz because I was seeing on average about 65% load on both GPUs.

2*7950s is a complete waste and bottlenecked on a Q6600 chip regardless of it being overclocked.

I might do this tbh...

I completely agree. I'm staggering my upgrade plan, I'll be using a 3930K with a 2011 board and 32GB RAM in a few weeks. I bought the 7950s now because they were £240 so I was saying a bit (even more since I've got the IceQ X2s.

MSi really seem to have dropped the ball with this one.

I am using a MSi motherboard, and it's great, my previous cards were MSi 470 GTX's they were great.

I would have stuck with my 470's if I had known that this card was going to be a lemon :(

I think you're well within your rights to send it back for another card.

I did, I put the experience down to poor ATi and moved back to nVidia.

I didn't realise at the time that there would be so many failures of this brand.

My 470 GTXs would have lasted me until the next generation of cards.

Just tried 12.10 with AB and it crashed after 1 second of Heaven with an OC but volts of 1.25v and fixed 65% fans.

Uninstalled AB and just OC'd with CCC and it crashed also.

Seems I cannot overclock the card, will try really mild overclocks (950 area) and see if it still crashes...

I've either got the worst chip possible or it's just been badly manufactured. Most people have alluded to the application of the paste but I'm not messing with that. I think I'll just send it back on Monday for a HIS IceQ tbh....
