28" OcUK Value Hanns-G HG281DP lcd monitor

Hey Cheekykid,

Let us know how it goes,

Im thinking of selling my 2x 226bw sammys to get either 2x24"s or 1x28"

Swaying towards the 28" as i only play games on my machine at home so dont really need dual screen lol.

The monitor is here. Thus far:

It doesn't support 1:1 which personally doesn't bother me a lot.

NO dead/stuck pixels on my screen:D

For more info give me some time.

What bothers me so far is the viewing angles. Am used to PVA panels and find kinda difficult to get used to a TN panel. Also the screen is very bright and you better sit a bit far back or be ready to slowly go blind. You can of course lower the brightness but that has a negative effect on black areas. Am happy my monitor has no stuck pixels and therefore I would recommend it to buyers. For £399 it's a good deal. In USA it currently goes for £280

One advantage this monitor has over any 24" is that on 28" 1920x1200 fits perfectly while on 24" you need to increase windows fonts etc. which i particurarly didn't like since things don't appear the same as before thus they look a bit weird when you increase the original size.

If you want me to do any tests or upload a video let me know.

Bear in mind that you better calibrate this monitor if you want to achieve good enough colours and contrast. Default settings ain't good at all.

Also blacks ain't very deep but good enough I guess for tft lcd's.

are you running it via vga or the hdmi input?

looks good, just need to sell my 2 x 226bw sammys lol

I use HDMI. Haven't tried the vga port. I will though.

As soon as i calibrate my screen with a colormeter ill make available the file so others can take advantage of it since defaults settings are way off.

I should mention that the monitors vertical angles are just terrible or all TN monitors are like that. Just sitting in front of it and the very bottom is brighter than the rest of the screen. Vertical angles are very very sensitive which may **** off some. The sides of the monitor don't get darker/lighter as you sit in front of the monitor but the bottom and top do. Only real let down I have come across thus far.

Maybe am sitting too close to the monitor and thats why I notice what I notice.

Yeah that's the drawback of TN, the vertical viewing angles. The bigger the screen, the bigger the problem.

Can you tilt the monitor down to help even out the verticle gradation? If the stand won't do it, perhaps a book under the back? Be interested to see if it helps - especially at that price - I saw the new Dell 27" monitors in the shop and this size is definitely my next investment!
