28" OcUK Value Hanns-G HG281DP lcd monitor

Anyone know what the external dimensions of this panel are? I may be interested in fitting one into an alcove. Google isn't that much use...

The dimensions of that unit are listed in the product description on the HannsG website.

Want to see some disturbing pictures of that monitor?

I had the chance to do a short review of that screen in a local electronics market yesterday. I was shocked by what I saw, it was that bad, that it must have been a faulty unit.

Even if the backlight-bleeding would not have been there, I came to the opinion, that this monitor is a no go for me. Maybe it's just the fact, that TN technology should come to an end.

HI there

I've been using one of these today and from the moment of taking it out of the box I was impressed. The build quality is fantastic, certainly feels more like a £500 monitor too handle due to its weight and the way it feels very tight etc.

In use, its a very bright screen but you can lower the settings so you can use it on your desktop.

It makes 1920x1200 resolution really easy to see as well and the quality is superb, good blacks, great colours etc.

It connects to a PC via analogue to HDMI. It comes with an HDMI to DVI cable so the PC end is DVI and monitor end HDMI which is basically DVI quality just without sound.

Just am very impressed with this for the money, for a screen of this size and quality its an absolute bargain.

Gibbo, can you make some pictures from all angles, as well with a black picture to examine the backlight-bleeding?

What's the exact unit type (as printed on the front frame on the upper left side)?

Hehehe. 'Master One' isnt going to let this one lie. He wont rest until it is fully investigated.

Obviously, once other people start buying this monitor, we will get a better idea, though after 'Master One's' damning review I wonder if anyone will be willing to take the risk?

HI there

I took a few but its a cheap and nasty BenQ camera and this is the only one that came out half decent:-

Gives you an idea that the viewing angle is OK and the blacks are black.

The photo does not do it any justice at all as the camera has made the image look a bit washy and re-produced the colours all wrong. Just don't buy a BenQ camera. :(

I can confirm what Gibbo is saying, the pictures just don't do it justice, the viewing angle is exceptionally good for a TN panel...

Gonna have to stop using a cheap BenQ camera to take product pictures.

HI there

Me and Jedifragger are just discussing how the viewing angle on this is better than the Samsung 245B and Hyundai W240D-TN and as to if its a new type of TN panel?

Its viewing angles are not good enough to be PVA, but if its TN based then its got better viewing angles over any previous TN panel I've seen.

TRUST MEH, ive seen this when gibbo and si was testing it and the viewing angles are brilliant, looking from any angle I see no fading or loss of colour. The response time is awesome, no blurring or ghosting, I just can’t get over how good this screen is people.

The picture does it no justice at all, anyone buying this screen will not be disappointed.

I've just gone through 70+ customer reviews of this monitor from an american retailer and way too many were reporting dead/stuck pixels. Has put me right off :/

What I like about this screen is that its resolution is perfect for the size of screen. I always feel that a resolution of 1920x1200 for a 24" widescreen monitor is far too high.

Now somebody buy one already. :)

If you get a Dead Pixel, return it under the DSA saying you simply "unwanted" and loose your postage.

Surely the DSA stipulates that you cannot open the package. You can only inspect it and if unwanted can return it for a full refund, providing it is unopened and is in resaleable condition. This does not entitle you to open up the screen, use it for a few days and then return it. Most companies will allow you to return the item but will force you to pay a restocking fee. This allows them to sell the item for a discount, as a B-Grade item. The DSA ends the moment you open up the package and begin using it.

Perhaps Gibbo can clear this up for us, as to what OCUK's policy is on returning used monitors with 1 dead pixel, within 7 days?

Go and read it and see I have used the DSA a couple of times.

For any online purchase from any store.

You can use it for 7days and return for no reason other than you dont like/want it, and loose postage, if its a fault you wont loose postage.

Since nobody really gives a 1 Dead Pixel warrenty (Sammy sometimes do) thats what I would use to get around it.

The store aint going to encourage you to do so but I wont accept 1 Dead Pixel on a new out the box montor (esp in this day and age).

I have bought plenty for customers and only had 1 with that issue and I returned it under the DSA and never mentioned the Pixel.

Thats why I wont buy out a shop unless I see the actual one I want working which wont happen so I buy online.
