Windows 8 Consumer Preview Thread

but this feels like a touch screen os and I feel it will only be successful with touch devices. Since owning iDevices this really feels like an Apple product to me, which I don't think they meant to do.

this has been mine, and many others, conclusion from the dev preview, its a touchscreen OS, simple as.
as for the apple likeness, do you really think it wasnt MS's aim? with the success of the iphone and ipad, something similar had to be coming, but they should have concentrated on tablet/phone version and pc/laptop version, not trying to be clever and cover both.
but that said, MS do generally come out with the statement new OS is designed for new hardware, so maybe there will be a mass release of touchscreen laptops, monitors and all-in-one desktops when Windows 8 is released.

So far I'm quite enjoying this, Although I don't like msn being full screen, I imagine I can just download an old version & use that though.

The weather app is showing the temp in Fahrenheit I think, Anyone got any idea how to change it to Celsius? Can't see an option anywhere.

It is going to take a while to get out of my old ways with this though.

you should be able to drag the window to the right (or left) side of the screen to pin it there in a smaller window.

massively disagree, its like XBMC and other HTPC Front ends, but with full OS behind it. its for media consumption, which is perfect for 90% of the public.

Most people simply don't need the gubbins behind the software. As long as 99% of apps are released in metro so I don't have to keep switching between them. I will be using metro. Nothing wrong with it at all on a desktop.

like any metro app, you need to hover the mouse in the top right corner for the "charms" bar to pop out. then click settings and you can change to celsius.

will it work as just a pen drive? i mean, are you only having problems making a bootable disc, or is it not working for anything?

not working full stop. plug it in and pops up saying need to format. I cant get anything to format it, all fail.
Looks like ill have to wait till tomorrow and get another drive from supermarket.

perhaps discussion forums are not the place for you? of course people are going to complain when such basic functionality as displaying all the messages in your inbox doesn't work. :/ such a simple feature should be bulletproof regardless of whether it's pre-release or not.

i'll forgive the gmail integration being slow but my first issue is with my hotmail account. :p
Why would discussions forum not be the place for me? You made a comment, I replied, pretty much the definition of discussions. If you can't cope with people not agreeing with you all the time may I suggest you look to take your own advice.

You should really understand that by definition beta/pre release software has bugs and problems, that's why it's not release, is free, has several months of coding left and is, in part made available so people that are interested can contribute by reporting problems back so they can be addressed.

If you expect or need a problem free experience then perhaps you'd be better waiting for release versions and save yourself the frustration.

this was my thoughts in the last thread about windows 8. too many people will download this due to the way its been marketed expecting it to be a full workable OS, its not, its for testing, so there will be problems, and these problems should be reported.
