just seen a breaking news report on sky news:

An armed gang has stolen £40m from a security depot in Kent, police have revealed.

The thieves posed as police to abduct the manager of the Securitas depot in Tonbridge and his family.

He was pulled over while driving near Stockbury at 6.30pm on Tuesday by what he believed was an unmarked police car.

More follows...

This would not have been an opportunist job either. You are talking months, maybe years of planning by a highly experienced crew and all that work has payed off so to speak.

The real work starts now to trace, arrest and convict them. I have confidence they will do so and any convictions / sentences will be in double figures, I reckon no less that 15 years.

Thanks gord .... I think. ;) :D

Why is it that when there's money involved, the sentence is usually higher? :o

if it was me id bury the cash and leave it there for around a year. Everyone involved go back to their jobs etc and live there lives as if nothing had happended. then One year down the line everyone get back together and make out as though its a lotto win and move to a nice hot non tax country.

Good point Des.

The Millenium Dome Robbery is an example, where they went after the Millenium Diamond. The sentences were high but the difference with that one was that SO19 and the Flying Squad were waiting for them after a tip off.

Slaaaaaags ! ;)

40Million in Tonbridge? who'd have thought it?

It was MB blatantly. He lives near Tonbridge anyway.

I was thinking that as well. AND, he is offline, no doubt counting the spoils with Benny the Blagger, Frederick ' Fingers ' Frederickson and Frankie the Fence.

If you knicked 40 mil and when you got arrested they coulnd't find it (obvioulsy because you had hidden it). When you got out could you move to anouther country and live off your stash without the police bothering you? (because you've done your time?)

Hmmm I'm well impressed personally, its good that a lot of planning can still reap high benefits :p Btw the bbc website says its more like £25 mill. Sky seams to exaggerate everything :p

Like the Northern Bank Job they might recall all the notes and print no ones along with serial numbers and so on. So when one of the stolen notes is used they can track it.

Yes, but they will be buying rubber incontinence pants, tissues and mints by then.
