Just wondered what everyone does and why the like or dislike what they do.

I am a Computer Science Student:

Like:

Not much at all really as the course is no longer my thing unfortunately.

Dislike:

All the programming and computer architecture :(

So you start a thread about what you do for a living, but you don't actually do anything for a living

I'm an IT Security Consultant:

Like: Almost constantly challenging and new problems to work on.

Dislike: See above.

I also work for an awesome company (lots of trips, company nights out, etc) which helps but isnt really part of what I do if you get me.

Finance Officer for the council

Like - Some of the staff, and the fact that im good at my job. Know that I make a difference to people who need help.

Dislike - Wages, 6 weeks of my contract left, my manager.

I work at Woodmaster doing the welding for the framing that holds the siding on.

Likes:
The people I work with. A generally good bunch of folks with pretty square heads on thier shoulders.
The company I work for. A really laid back company that doesn't stress too much about much of anything.
My actual job. I get to join two dissimilar metal pieces together with electricity!! :D

Dislikes:
In the winter it gets kinda cold in there.
In the summer it's going to get rather unpleasant wearing a leather welding jacket, having a black welding helmet on, breathing my own hot breath back in plus the fumes from welding galvanized steel.
Pay could be a little better and medical benefits could cost a little less ($385 a month out of my check).

Manager at a bookies

Likes - the customers, MOST of the staff, good pay for being able to sit down all day, eat/drink/read mags :p

Dislikes - a select few of customers, the fact i cant drive so if i get moved to another shop its an hour and a half on 2 busses in the morning, sundays, when you are just sat there doing nothing because no-one comes in

I sell phones for Orange lol

Likes - Good package and benefits, get new phone every 4 months

Dislikes - The public and people that think they know everything lol

Currently a Stock controller however in 3 weeks I will start my new job as a Trainee Accountant :)

Like: The job will be a challenge, Very decent money after a while, Good company, Company pays for training.

Dislike: Long hours, a lot of studying for ACCA qualification,

Job: Web Design/Developer

Like: It's a small company (only 3 people, 1 of which is my brother!) so its a great laugh, enjoy the job as it challenges me, because its a small company right from the off i had input in projects gave me a big sense of responsibility

Dislike: Waking up in the mornings even though i work 9.30 - 5.30 :P

Job: Application developer/tester

Like: hmmm, being on company expenses? Having direct contact with the customers and having large areas of direct responsibility.

Dislike: Having to deal with the "trainers". I can't believe how useless they really are, and having to fire fight their mistakes  Oh, and doing extra work as many of the staff are too incompetent to do it themselves

The trainers will be going in a few months, so it’s something to look forward to.

job: Railway signalling faulting technician

likes: always challanging, the people, the money(for what I actually do) :D , allways a different view(lovely countryside this) good benifites(free glasses and bikes and computers and stuff)

dislikes: travelling to and from work(40 miles each way) soon to change though as I'm moving. :D ...oh and the cold , as most of it is outside(but summer is nice)

bullit

Technician for Water Treatment Company

Likes :-
Varied Work
Lots of Driving
Good Laugh

Dislikes :-
Sometimes chained to PC for long periods of time

Technical Support for the 'best selling contact management system in the world'

Likes:

9-5, reasonable wage.

Dislikes:

The program is riddled with bugs which the developers refuse to accept exist.
Its more like complaints than tech support.
The company who owns the product try to brush it under the carpet so pretend our department doesn't exist.

Part time Sales Consultant at Carphone Warehouse

Likes: It's good pay for the hours when you take commission into account, get on with everyone well, good staff discounts. Ooh and don't have to start till 12 at the earliest.

Dislikes: Bit stressful as we have to keep to sales targets every day and if we don't meet them we get called up to explain why we didn't, decent pay's not always a certainity because it's commission based. Irate customers.

I have 2 flex-time jobs at the moment, (usually fulltime work)

Chief Network Engineer for NHS

Likes: Pay is ok, technology, new stuff, a physical and mental challenge. Spending a lot of time making it all work and admiring my job when it's finished.

Dislikes: When it don't work you're in deep trouble, 10,000 user base + is no joke when your installing SAN, Senior managers keep calling me every 10 minutes of the day for a update on the project. Over 100 miles each way to the site. Low level support mucking me around (being interrupted)

Own business (mainly contracting for Shell)

Likes: Money is very good, fuel card, a different challenge every time, meeting new people, often managing a small team of 10 people to help me complete the project: ie complete re-wire of the server room, relocating servers etc.

Dislikes: Funny hours, long hours to site sometimes, very hard work and often too tired to drive back home (Wife picks me up sometimes) Distance to site can be anything from over the road to 300 miles each way. :(
