Bullit in head, how much are guys earning now? If you don't mind me asking. As I work with a few ex BR guys on LU and they were on a pittance compared to what we got back then.

pays really increased over the last couple of years...top guy's (grade 4's) can expect to earn over 45K...and thats with out much over time...
I'm looking at just under 40 for the year(grade 3 faulting).
what about's yourself(I'd personnaly hate to work in those tunnels all the time ;)

Quick question about these guys as I have an interview with them on Friday...

Are you expected to update your own phone every few months or so or do they heavily subsidise contracts/new models for you as long as you work there?
Nope. Not too sure why you'd think that?
I've got one of the newer phones but that's b/c I was due for a new contract when I first got the job and I get half price line rental b/c I work there. :)
Main perks is 30% off any phone and half price line rental with all the networks as well as much cheaper insurance.
As long as you still know what you're selling, it doesn't matter if you own an older phone.

If you've got any more questions, email me. Not been there long (3 months) but I've gone through all the training etc and have an idea of the place. :)

Well as a Technical Officer I'm salaried at around about £42-43k at the last look, which is for permanent nights, but I'd get a few quid more for going on shift. The Union is currently negotiating a pay deal so we'll see what we get from that.

Tunnels aren't that bad, I'm on one of the more 'open' lines anyway, which is nice as you say. Especially in the summer. :)

What IRSE licences do you hold, if any? I've currently got:

Maintainer 1.4.110
Maintenance Tester 1.4.160 and
Signalling Fault Finder 1.4.120.

:)

I work for what was SERCO but now NWR(we all are)Derby midlands

I got into it by contracting all over the country, I came to this place for a week and they offered me a job, been here 7 years now, started at bottom and worked up.You could go to an Agency and get training and work that way, I did it like that but have an electrical background(which really helps)

You could just go to the depots and ask for a job (can work, but not round here) but it would help to have some knowledge to start with.

got those + team leader......can be bothered to look at my numbers(at work at mo)

bugger can I come work for you lot?????
mind you is that the london rate????

You can if you like, but you'd still have to do the 1 year training thing they have now to train to T.O level, as even though you can fault find, you still have to be trained on our equipment. No SSI for us, bog standard 1960's Westinghouse signalling. Old skool. :p

That wage is pretty much standard across LU, unless you go contracting where you can earn over double that. I'd recommend going that route now, as you don't get the old LU perks anymore (Free travel, TfL Pension etc) if you join Metronet or Tube Lines. I still don't know why I haven't left to go contracting yet.

ditto to that... ssi is south only iirc... weve got wespac mk3 and RRI along with 1890's lever frames (watch your fingers) ;) ...

did the contracting thing for 3 years I was well pleased to get this job as I really hate the travel. some weekends working in Manchester then the next in Dover.....Think I'll stick where I am

bullit....(not a Train spotter)

Sunday work at primark:

Pro's: Know quite a few people who work there
OK money.
Easy work but there's enough to keep me entertained.
It's only 6 hours.
Plenty of overtime if I need it.

Cons:
I really despise one of the managers.
Can get really hot in there in the summer.
Working on a sunday :(
The place (aestheically) looks quite dull.

Senior Engineer/Project leader in IT/Telecomms for the superyacht industry

+ Interesting projects.
+ Get to play with amazing technology.
+ The travel

- The travel
- The sheer amount of money and blazé attitude of a lot of the owners
- The politics

(by the end of the year I shall be in a new job - I'm determined)

I thought about putting that, but travel is definately a - for me atm.

Well Roz is currently preparing for an interview and has been pretty busy over the past week, and I've been in Palma de Mallorca which actually isn't too bad considering I can't really spend any time with her. Had I been commuting to a Dutch or German shipyard I'd probably wouldn't have put it :p

Job - 2nd Chef

Good points - I'll have to get back to that one

Bad points - Weekends, the hours, Stuck in a kitchen with no windows or doors to the outside world, hard to belive but in winter it gets freezing in there as we have no control over the fans intake/outake. boiling in summer

Currently looking at changing jobs, as its dragging me down.
