:( This year has gone by so fast, feels like only yesterday I was watching Arsenal play Chelsea in the Charity Shield. Luckily it's World Cup year so the break without football isn't massive, but still.... last day always makes me sad.

Who'll clinch 2nd? Who'll clinch 4th? That last UEFA Cup spot? Will we be watching the last Premiership games of Thierry Henry (god I hope not, for the good of Arsenal and the Premiership)? Ruud Van Nistelrooy?

Will John Stead score a bullet header from his own corner flag?

These questions MUST be answered!

If West Ham had a fully fit squad and wern't in the FA CUP Final I would be more optimistic that we could nick 4th spot off the enemy, It makes me mad that a couple of results earlier in the season and we would have 4th spot rapped up, what a shame, I suppose we will have to win the Champions League!

I think Spurs will beat West Ham without much trouble , they'll be keeping thier boots clean for the cup final.
If Arsenal fail to win the european cup it will be interesting having UEFA cup football at Asburton - fill it up for a game against a pub team from Bulgaria?

I also think Newcastle will beat Chelsea , we have never lost our final home game of the season since 1991 and we generally do alright against Chelsea and their 500 fans up here.
This result will see us finish a respectable 7th , amazing after the first half of the season and also prooves the shear mediocrity of the rest of the mid table teams.
7th gives us qualification to the intertoto cup and a two legged play off game against (I think) Norwegian or Icelandic opposition - a win gives UEFA cup qualification , entry into the round before Englands other qualifiers step in.
We have been in the intertoto cup twice before and were knocked out both times , its somehow ironic that we cant even win this cup even though no trophy exists for winning it!

I don't think we will have any problems filling it next season (perhaps in the League Cup) It's the season after that will be important.

Cole set to play again as Clichy has taken a knock, that should mean Cole will start in Paris. Campbell will also play, which logically means he to will play in Paris, which I'm not too happy about. Not sure if Theo will get a run out.

Bergkamp plays his last game for Arsenal, Goodbye Dennis, you are a legend.

Newcastle finishing 7th would have been a distant dream back in january. It is really amazing.. if we win tomorrow then its hard to imagine we have had a better season than most of the teams below us.

i.e. west ham, wigan, bolton,

considering most the season we were dire.. and especially west ham and wigan have been decent all the way through its hard to imagine we are above them.

all i was hoping for in january was finishing 10th at best...

we can now be back in europe next season if all goes well with the inter toto. and with a few changes in the summer... who knows... if we can be avaerage at get 7th am sure we can do a bit better with stability from the start.. and a few changes to the squad.

We have picked up more points than Chelsea , Arsenal and Spurs since Souness was sacked.
Fact , no no wait , FACT!

Newcastle have done incredibly well the past few months.

It's funny, Souness is obviously an incredibly bad manager but I think it's hard to quite believe that all of Newcastle's problems were down to him... but then as soon as he leaves Newcastle go on amazing run and might even qualify for Europe.

Brilliant.

yeh,

think we are in with a shout for champions league next season... judging and progressing from this season....?

that is really weird us picking up more points than those teams since souness.

the more i think about it, the more i think roeder is a genius

P.S.. if we finish 7th, would only one win in the inter toto cup qualify us for the uefa cup?

im a bit lost when it comes to the inter toto cup competition with regards to qualifying for the uefa cup

Nowt to do with genius , just playing your players where they should be played.
A half decent set of tactics , eliminating the long ball and dropping Boumsong.
It hardly rocket science.
The teams we have played have been poor and the way we have rolled over and been inept in front of the big teams is equally as bad.

Champions league aspirations are a way off yet , I cant see us breaking into the top four for a while.

Yep , just having a little dig around and got this info.

The Premiership's representatives join at the Third Round stage (2 legs) - victory giving the team in question a place in the UEFA Cup Second Qualifying Round.

Intertoto Third Round Dates:

Jul 15/16th (h)
Jul 22nd (a)

The representatives of Iceland and Northern Ireland clash in Round One, the winners then facing the Norwegian representative in Round Two for the privilege of meeting the Premiership side.

Teams now confirmed:

Iceland: IBK Keflavik
N.Ireland: Dungannon Swifts
Norway: Lillestrom SK

ok.. cheers.

this season has gone by so quick, maybe because its be quite an eventful season.

im so glad its world cup year like, i love watching as many games as possible in the world cup, just love it. and once its over its sort of only a month til the season kicks off again.

its always torture without world cup or europeon. but obviously all the drama in the transfer window will keep me occupied for july.

following on from january i think next season is going to be good from the start.. finally for us (newcastle). cant wait.

A big part of where you can go next season depends on whether you can hang on to Owen, and if you can, whether he stays fit for more than 5 matches or not.

Com'n Spurs...!!

Would love to hold on that 4th spot! If anyone had said we would finish this season in the top 6, i'd have been more than happy with that.

So i'm not to bothered whether we make the champions league or not if Arsenal go on to win the CL. Although it would be a great bonus, i'm a great believer in walking before being able to run and i'd hate them to fluff it up. I think a season in the UEFA cup would do them better tbh.

The thing to remember that things are looking up at the lane, and we've got a few teams (inc Arsenal) looking over their shoulders for once, regardless of what happens today :)

Early start for me , being the last game and all that , I shall be knocking on the door of The Forth at 11.30 and demanding entry.

NUFC: (from) Given, Harper, Carr, Ramage, Bramble, Moore, Boumsong, Taylor, Elliott, Babayaro, Solano, N'Zogbia, Emre, Faye, Clark, Pattison, Brittain, Luque, Owen, Ameobi, Chopra.

A decision on whether Owen appears will be made after Saturday training.

Taylor may get his first taste of football this year but Emre is a doubt, while Parker, Dyer and Bowyer are all missing.

Haway the lads!
